He was charged with selling at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.

He was reinstated and played the next year.

He was not charged with selling at the MACC, he was arrested at his home when the police showed up for a domestic disturbance.

PH is right. And he has a few ounces in little bags, which qualified it as "trafficking"

Uakronkid, you may be the exception, but your fans are mostly arrogant asses. More so than anyone in the MAC IMO. So karma is a *****. The old saying holds true in this instance, be humble or be humbled. Akron basketball fans are anything but humble these days, so I will enjoy this moment. Here's hoping KSU send you to the NIT with a 2 game losing streak!

There's certainly one right here in this thread. I don't define drug dealing as "tragic"; getting hit by a car, catching a disease, having your house burn down would be "tragic" but not earning your way into two felonies.

I think its tragic when anyone ruins their life. Just a difference of opinion I guess.

Cooper's just a goofy little kid. I think Akron fans would be more shocked than gloatful (yes, I just made up that word).

Given Kent basketball's past history, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Holt or anybody else got arrested. I would be disappointed, though, since I thought their new AD had mostly cleaned things up.

I wouldn't be surprised if anyone on any team got arrested. We're talking about 18- 22 year old men in their knucklehead years.

You don't want to pick up that rock, uaakron kid. We have a history of players getting arrested for peeing on sidewalks, playing music too loud, having less than an ounce of pot, curfew violations and one, Chris Singletary, a DUI after his best friend was shot and killed.

You have a history of players arrested for alleged unauthorized gun possession, alleged bar fights, alleged assault on girlfriends and now allegedly having 5 lbs of pot delivered. We don't even know why one of your senior starters was suspended for the first three months of the season last year. We don't even know why Alex was suspended twice before this.

YOU do not want to throw that rock. Trust me, we are in the minor leagues of disruption compared to Akron Basketball.

You can allege anything. Show me something concrete for those claims. Court records, convictions, anything.

And, by the way, the claim of "unauthorized gun possession" is 100% bullsh!t, and if you had specified any actual Akron basketball player, past or present, would border on libelous.

Last thing on Cribbs:

He definitely was arrested at home. At one point, police said the sales happened at the MACC. Little bags of pot were at his house. There was a domestic fight involved.

Much messier than I remembered. Here's the link to the R-C story if anyone cares.

Even if he was just in the wrong place at wrong time, it couldn't come at a worse time for Akron and the MAC. There's no unbeatable teams in the NCAA this year. I think almost any team that makes the NCAA tourney could win or lose in any given game. This is the type of year when there will be lots of upsets and mid-majors can do some damage and run deep into the tournament. Akron seemed to be a great possibility to be one of those teams. Still have outside hope of them getting an at-large and Ohio going with the auto. But the PR damage is already done regardless of innocence.

Akron's at-large chances are ZERO now. I repeat: ZERO.

Betancourt seems to be a pretty good backup. He handled himself well in games he played. I would not write off Akron. They have enough depth to overcome this.

I wouldn't write them off either but it is a huge blow. Betancourt is able to come in and spell Abreu but he isn't close to being the same player. He's averaging more turnovers than he is assists. Much like Stevie Taylor, he's able to come in play effectively in short spurts but playing a full game is a different story. And what do you do when you need to give Betancourt a blow?

Seems like a great way to make sure your distribution routes don't get compromised.

Wow, you're really grasping at straws. Do you think a drug dealer would pick a high-profile target like Abreu? Sorry but if this happened to Chris Evans and a Kent State fan said what you are saying you would be destroying him.

PH has already posted the news reports for this "100% bull****." Just in case you missed his post:

You are correct in one sense. A more accurate description would have been "charged with attempted murder and felonious assault."
