RE: Saint Floyd
After watching him toss in the towel against USM in the last few minutes at our game with UTEP this year, I think UTEP would be better off without him. Not to mention he is coaching like he is stuck in the 80's.

Memphis fans love him because he just said in a press conference that he is voting all Memphis players on his all conference ballot.

If Floyd goes, then Gillispie will take over. Either way, we'll be fine with Floyd or Gillispie.

Pat got his information from somewhere...probably Floyd.

Of course he hasn't been offered a job...it's in the middle of the season.

I never said UAB is having a good season. I just don't think 16-12 is a good season. If UAB was 16-12, I wouldn't think it was a good season either. Sorry you are so sensitive to it, and maybe 16-12 is great what UTEP fans consider good, but considering your tradition and history, I would think you would want better.

My comment had nothing to do with UAB. It's funny that everyone's first line of defense is to go after something unrelated to the original post.

Edit: sorry I just assumed it was a UTEP fan who retorted. Should have known it was a Memphis fan. I assume Memphis would not be happy with 16-12, why should other teams

depends on the success of a program really. If a program has been down a long time and suffered through years of losing a 16-12 season would be a great season, but with a program like Memphis for example, it would be horrendous.

UTEP is the only Division I team in the state of Texas to win a national championship.

Surely, they can't be that delusional to think a 16-12 season is "good". I don't care how down they've been and for how long.

Then again, they did keep Mike Price for as long as they did...

RE: Saint Floyd
There's no way UTEP would put up with a Mike Price in basketball. That's where our history and tradition is. It's a reason why Sadler and Barbee left when they had the chance because even though they went to the NCAA Tournament and NIT, their seasons were from mediocre to average. Yes, money played a part on those two leaving but it was not their only motive. They knew they were a season probably two of mediocre results from being removed.

Retread the thread. It's not the UTEP fans saying 16-12 is good, it's the arrogant Memphis fans who while 16-12 would be a catastrophe for them, it's good enough for any other CUSA team.

Well, once you've won 38 games in a seas ... oh, wait. That never happened.

Now, about that LA Times piece ... it's certainly presented in the newspaper story as a job interview ("Haden, through a spokesman, said he would have no comment until the coaching search is complete." and "A person with knowledge of the situation said at least one other interview has been conducted, with Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins, who played at Mater Dei."). I can't believe UTEP's admin (or Syracuse's) would grant permission for Floyd to interview for another job during the course of the season.

Why the hell did this turn into a UAB-Memphis pissing match?

I think there's a lot of smoke and not a lot of fire here. Yahoo and CBS have pretty much said so this afternoon. And, he hasn't given us the "I love El Paso. My family loves El Paso. We're staying here for as long as you'll have us." I'd be worried then.

However, if this did happen--Floyd to USC--that would be an absolute, Category 5 ball-kick for our program.

WTF happened in this thread?

How can a Floyd thread turn Memphis and UAB fans against each other?

Well, off to the game.

I did some asking around with some of the boosters and others close to the program that I trust. While they did not say Coach Floyd has told them he is staying, they all do not see it happening.
