Heard from one person who talked to another with supposedly "good" connections and the word is that Jeff Compher is going to be named East Carolina University's new Athletic Director.

Hoping someone among you with better connections can quickly shoot this down or get your own verification. The three links appear to be pretty solid with nothing to gain by being right or wrong, and have proven to be aware of other things a few days in advance.

IF, and that's an underlined and capital "if," it's true, then it fits with the notion that Compher's been focused on leaving and may not have put in the extra effort some of us have thought was needed when it came to football scheduling.

Maybe that's why Shelley did most of the presentation Saturday evening.

It's down to Nick Floyd(already at ECU, would be promoting from within), Jeff Barber(AD at Liberty) and Jeff Compher..

Compher is a good AD, but not anything too special. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he moved up in the athletic director world though. There is ALOT of turnover in every college Athletic Dept. He's certainly hasn't wowed me in anyway, but has done great things for NIU.

If he's going to go I hope he goes when Peters would be the one hiring his replacement.

If it is true, JC does not have to worry about MM anymore. A new AD will hire his own basketball coach in a year.

NIU75, you are crazy. MM has a 5 year contract and is going nowhere. I would not be surprised if Compher extended Monty before he left. Compher is trying and ready to leave. NIU is not going to fire a coach after 2 or 3 years, when we were a mess when the guy got here. Too many people sound like what was happening with Obama. We left him with a huge mess, but he hasn't fixed it quick enough, so he must suck!

I believe if ECU offers he is gone! He is a good AD and I wish him luck anywhere he goes!

Compher did not have a huge mess. Phillips was a tremendous AD, look at what he's doing at Northwestern. I think Compher has kept the ship on track, but also added some good coaches. Where Compher lacks is where Phillips shined, his ability to make the small donor feel like they are important. With Phillips, he saw every donor as a potential $1 million dollar donor at some point in their lives. Compher has not reached out to me at all in his tenure. I've really felt like a second class donor since he took the job.

ECU is in a bit of a conference re-alignment FUBAR, seems like a jump to a ship taking on water.

Jeff is a very good AD and I felt it was 50/50 that he would be here in the fall. He has accomplished alot here and there is a new pres coming in. However, I am surprised he would consider ECU. I think he could do better. Maybe the dismal state of the basketball program has wore him down. Just thin in the fall we will have a new football coach, Pres. and probablt AD. I know this, we will attract very good candidates for our AD job

cannot affrod to eat 3 yrs of a contract

Does MM have a 4 year or a 5 year contract? I always thought it was 4 years.

Maybe a new AD will schedule better AQ teams and have them come to DeKalb.
