Recalling blazr's previous posts....
Could the latest drama in the Big East (basically fire sale of all assets) be what pushes the "homeless" schools into the Alliance with the MWC??? It's an intersting thought if you ask me.

Food for thought - The MWC has the autobids, Boise State, the ability to make our own TV revenue (something Terry Holland wants for ECU), the basketball power Memphis & Temple would want and stability.

At this point I might be warming up to this..... A LOT.

Aresco needs to step up and actually lead. Things didn't start to unravel until he came into the picture.

Extrapolating blazr's theory:
Only two of MWC/CUSA/nBE survive. Some schools move up to ACC/XII.

Western CUSA/nBE schools go to MWC; eastern schools return to CUSA; nBE becomes a basketball conference.

My question about any potential move to the MWC will always center on $$, and it will always be tied directly to the front range schools and how they vote as a block.

They hold the key if the some teams are looking for a move to the MWC.

Makes sense, IMO in light of the BE fire sale of the basketball units.

The MW is a rising basketball conference. I know if I'm Houston, SMU, Tulane or Memphis I would want to be attached to it over the BE.

Invite Rice and Tulsa then you have 4 nice divisions.

I: Cincinnati, Temple, UConn, ECU, South Florida, Central Florida
II: Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa, SMU, Rice, Houston
III: New Mexico, Air Force, Colorado St, Wyoming, Utah State, Boise St.
IV: Nevada, UNLV, San Jose St., Fresno St, San Diego St, Hawaii

Five time zones very well represented. This is much better then the proposed MW/CUSA merger because your adding UConn, UC, USF and Temple into to mix.

That's already happened. Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville (and ND) to the ACC; WVU (and TCU) to the Big 12.

MWC obviously survives. NBE survives, whatever they're going to call it. I don't think I'd call CUSA a survivor; at this point they exist in name only (or in the NBE). Calling CUSA a survivor is like calling the WAC a survivor.

Yep, I never would have thought it would happen, And I was totally against it, but after the latest crap UCONN, Cincy, and USF have started its time to cut the cord and join the MWC....

Disagree about one aspect of this -- no schools are moving up to the ACC until the Notre Dame "football membership" saga reaches its conclusion.

I, for one, do not want to lose Cinci, UConn or Temple. I really don't think that we have much to worry about with USF, but I could be wrong.

I would be 100% in favor of an "Alliance" with the MWC. I've always thought that it would work nicely, if some folks would pull their heads out of their a$$e$.

A few thoughts.

First, this can only happen if the NCAA changes the rule on CCGs to permit a semifinal round.

Second, this would only make sense if (a) some network were willing to pay an extra premium to land broadcast rights for the whole group, and/or (b) some preference were given to the group in post-season competition, e.g. a BCS bowl auto bid, or a playoff auto berth if the four-team playoff expanded to eight or more. Otherwise why bother?

Finally, I like the proposed school lineup, except that I'd substitute UTEP or UTSA for Rice to bring in another market.

I think C-USA has survived even if it has taken serious hits. Having a 14 school conference with more schools wanting in is surviving. The media money difference now between any of the Gof5 is nominal. Its no where near the next level of income for any of us. If C-USA is itself in name only, then that certainly applies to the nBE as well.

It could be done with 18 teams and an 8 game schedule w/ no crossovers, 20 teams and a 9 game schedule or God forbid 22 teams with a 10 game conference schedule.

The 20-team, 9 conference game schedule should appeal to most schools.

Sign the conference up for Apple TV (or online) and I am set. $100 for a football season. $100 for a basketball season.
