WKU
Someone is posting on the Belt board that WKU is having a coaches meeting later this week to announce they are moving to C-USA. Anybody know anything about this?

RE: WKU
Sounds like mostly rumors. But lots of folks have said for a while that if there is another shift that WKU was likely the next on deck. The below is from the WKU beat writer. Makes me think the nBE TV is all wrapped up and they are moving to the next setp.
Chad Bishop @MrChadBishop
@DaRitzMan It's my understanding that once BE TV deal done, then Tulsa invite, then WKU invite to C-USA. That's mostly conjecture.

More of a rumor than anything. RT @dmrnevada: Word is that once the BE TV deal is done, Tulsa will be invited. This info via @MrChadBishop

RE: WKU
If I were Tulsa, I'd hold off on moving until the exit fees are resolved, if they hold true at $6.5mil, I wouldn't move.

RE: WKU
If WKU were to beging C-USA play in 2014, we might see Bobby Petrino roaming the C-USA sidelines for one season, but there's still a fair chance he's one and done at WKU.
I believe that if he stays on his best behavior and WKU has a good season, barring a colossal turnaround by Pinkel, that Petrino will be named the head coach at Missouri after this season.

Unless he finds a reason to stay..........

RE: WKU
If TU is offered, they'll join. If you're serious about athletics, you want to be in the best possible conference. TU has also made noises about moving.
Assuming TU is in fact next, I think this means they wanted it more than USM. Our AD is soft on conference realignment. My suspicion is that Aresco et al. approached him informally, but didn't get a strong, enthusiastic "yes."
Tulsa's an OK choice, but I think USM is better: more students, more alumni, better geography..

RE: WKU
I still don't like the fact that adding WKU means UAB shifts west.
I think WKU is the best add if geography weren't a factor, but in this case I think Texas State is a better choice.

So, explain why they want to move to the Big east if they want to better themselves?

If Hammond had accepted the offer floated by him, he would have been insane. To say it was bad economics is an understatement. Patience will be a positive as this realignment continues. Some have acted in a hysterical rush and that was a mistake.

I'm just saying I want to keep UAB in the East. There's no doubt WKU is the better program, and the best program available by a long shot. Not trying to start ****.

Their TV contract is bigger. Whatever short-term advantage you see in staying will be overwhelmed by the TV money. You just have to project further into the future.
It's unfortunate that Hammond's managed to get fans thinking this way. Figuring out the financial part of moving up is his job. He's not doing it.
This is a hypothetical argument... where it becomes concrete is scheduling. Take a look at this year's football schedule. Dollars be damned,we need to escape THAT.
If we turn down the Big East, we're basically turning down a better job because we don't have money for a necktie.

I want WKU, but in a strictly platonic conference way. Nothing more.

I think someone is a creative rumor spreader. The story doesn't hold water enough to be worth investigating.

RE: WKU
Is there any rivalry in CUSA that can match the intensity and insufferability (from an outsider's view) of the MT/WKU rivalry? Not that I've seen.

It's an unfair question, mainly because WKU/MTSU fans are caught up in the passion and hatred of it. I'm sure to fans part of other rivalries, theirs is more intense.
