RE: The Official Broncos VS NIU gamethread!
He said he was better in a hi low game than Tave. Probably true, but I didnt think NIU was in a zone when he brought him in which was his reasoning for the hi low game.

NIU had Whit bottled up down low. Always had three guys around him. I thought he should bring him up high and see if they gave him the shot of if he could pass it inside to Hutch or Tave. Never really adjusted to that.

Luckily Montgomery is almost as indecisive as Hawk. When NIU did go to a zone, we attacked it with our slow mo "look, ball fake, look again, and pass" around the arch offense. NIU tried that successfully for a couple of possession and then went back to man.

Two things about tonight’s game. If I wasn’t a WMU fan I would feel sorry for NIU. They played hard all night. Secondly, as a freshman I thought Tava had some great moments and movements during the game. Played well in his first starting role.

Could not believe it when Hawk put Paul in. Crowd applauded, but I don’t know. Game may have been on the line, but is it worth risking further injury to one of your stars?

Biggest crowd of the year. But the student section sure is lethargic!

gbl, but he's over-qualified.

This.
Two plays last night.
Midway in 1st half the inbound to Hutch for a jumper was nice.
At end of 1st half an inbound to Hutch to Shayne for 2 plus bonus was again nice.
Last night they missed Paul inbounding the ball which works much better than Ritchie.

True to form. After the game I asked several people what the posters would say, even though we won.

Thanks for not letting me and a lot of others down.

16 wins, how many would have predicted this?

Always proud to be a Bronco.

Always proud to be a Bronco.

2 more wins than last year's senior laden team and there are still more games to play.

I'm very happy with that....Just have to keep my expectations in check.

FWIW....I've heard the WMU head coach say that he doesn't evaluate his team's performance by the score of the game.

That's really something all right. I don't evaluate what jacket to wear by how cold it is either! 04-cheers

When DP comes back would still love to see Conner in there. Take Pokes place?

Shayne has been wide open for a layup three different times in the last two games. The in bounder has just flat out missed it. I really do not like having our PG inbound the ball under our own basket.

Or if it was a W or L.

It's the process that counts. Trending up or down?

Thinking the same thing.

But that is a two edged sword.

It doesnt solve the problem of not playing Perry, Klien or Avery.

Poke would sit but would still likely play 20+.

Misguided notion as the season is playing out.

By the way, I love the intangibles Poke brings. He also can shoot the ball, but his skill set is very limited. Playing the season out is bearing that out.
The sad truth is that he will be gone next year and Taylor's growth will have been stunted. What he will be learning next year should have been learned this year.

Many inbounds were disjointed and got done by the skin of their teeth, and I saw for sure twice Shane heading to the basket and the pass wasn't made, up high or a bouncer to his waist.

Those two examples were nice, now to eliminate the ones where they end up with our offense out of joint at best would be nicer.

Trends that end up with a W would be best, trends that end up...up with W's would be best of all. Trends that end up with us having the hot hand and feared by the rest of the conference would be the best of all worlds.

It's a "best practice" kind of thing. I said best.

Niu scouted the in bounds plays well, we failed to adjust, and our in bounder struggled to pull the trigger.

That should cover it.

Nice to hear it admitted instead of just pointing out that it worked twice. 01-ncaabbs

I hear ya. But look at Whittington this year. He didn't play big minutes last year and he's doing a great job this year. Those guys will be fine. Klein and Perry have seen the floor enough to be prepared for next year, IMO.

That's part of it.

More importantly, if Hawk means what he says then it's excution and effort that count.

Maximizing or realizing a player's potential, and a team's potential.

To Acer's point:

If the team is doing poorly in a given area, it isn't out of line to point it out, and hope for/expect improvment.

Bob Knight used to say that he "coached against the game".

Larry Brown calls it "playing the right way".

They both are saying the same thing.

If you buy into this philosophy, whether the team has 16 or 6 wins is irrelevant.
