Tava 30 minutes (25 @ 4 and 5 @ 3)
Avery 20 minutes (10 @ 4 and 10 @ 5)
Whittington 30 minutes at 5
Loney 5 minutes @ 4

Hawk should be able to win by 20 with this group.

For real. Lets see season highs out of Tava and Perry today.

A poster in a different thread mentioned that Darius didn't show up for the game against Ball State. Another stated that Darius was gimpy during the game.

His being sidelined for the game against NIU confirms that he was not 100% in the last game. A healthy Darius Paul could have made a difference against Bowling Green....as well as hitting foul shots and other things.

Hopefully Tava and Perry will rise to the occasion. They both play hard and are impressive freshman as well. Quite a class.

I tend to agree that Darius should probably sit if in doubt. Maybe even against Pacific next Saturday also depending on how he feels.

Anyone who is even slightly banged up should be sitting. That game is pretty close to meaningless.

Would like to see a lot of AJ Avery today. His length can bother opposing shooters and he's actually capable of finishing above taller players, unlike Loney.

Anyone who thinks we're going to cruise by NIU without Paul is mistaken. Teams have our number these days, i.e. "pressure the backcourt" and win the turnover battle. On defense they send their guards to the hole. Our ace in the hole is a strong frontcourt, which is now depleted.

I dont think we will cruise past NIU without Darius, but even without him we should.

Not because Darius is of lesser value. But because there are undervalued and underused assets sitting on the bench.

At the beginning of the season I pointed the importance of post play in general and specifcally as this team was constituted.

That position didnt play in Peoria as all the MAC West Centric crowd touted small ball and that's how it rolls in the MAC. One individual went back to the dawn of time (25 years) trying to connect the dots to make the small ball argument.

Take Shayne or Darius out of this mix and DB isnt a factor.

I have been screaming for months that this squad's strength laid in the post but that it too was thin. Recruit quality size is what I stated. Again, the small ball crowd wants Tucker and Leo and also wanted the kid who chose BGSU.

LIke the Chinese Army, we have gobs of depth on the perimeter. We could even stand to lose a few. Quality post play? Nope!

So now the rubber meets the road. I have been warning of a poke in the eye, a rolled ankle a tweeked back or knee and the house of cards comes down.

Time to use the faith you placed in these kids you recruited to do as you have schooled them. Let the dogs loose. Lengthen your reach. Lengthen your bench.

I don't disagree with anything you mentioned. Problem is, class of 2013 is horribly thin at 6'8" and taller guys that can play DI.

Jalen Hayes was likely the only front court guy that could have made a difference if we got him. We made a run at him and came up short. No sense in getting a player who doesn't project to be better than the four mentioned above.

2014 is the class we can recruit and boast that we have plenty of minutes open and ready to be taken with Shayne's departure.

I just think the talent pool and our 2012 class didn't warrant a post player coming our way.

I know '13 was lean on mean. But Connar is not a post player. Neither is Kellen.

Darius plays and AJ hasnt.

Now Darius may be out and all of sudden heads turn (as they should).

What if Shayne pulls a hammie or worse.

Now we are much more the equivalent of NIU and nobody and I mean no WMU follower would want that.

You can chalk it up to injuries but then not to have an ample number of bodies available is now the question.

It all goes back to planning based on your identity. If you are as is always touted: a defensive minded tough rebounding team you need to have the personnel to make that a reality. It's not to diminish slots 1 through 3. It is to recognize that 4 and 5 are your last line for 1-3. If 4 and 5 are manned by 3's masqurading as 5's it's exposed in a heart beat.

WMU, when healthy is solid at the 4 and 5. It's the depth. And it is now being exposed.

I attended the game in DeKalb.

I was very impressed with AJ and Connar. Connar has continued to play but AJ hasn't. I understand Dan Loney is present and is solid and stable. But limited.

If both were freshman and you had 3 more years to invest and grow a ROI which should you go with now?

That would be the question to ask.
