RE: [MERGED] Check out ACC.com at 11 A.M for football schedules
Its also part of the balancing of scheduling for the benefit of TV. Can I "burn off" a conference game, get a decent rating and still keep the games that fans would notice outside of the conference available for a Saturday primetime game?

For a long time, ABC Sports and ESPN were two separate entities. Two different depts run by different methodologies. Now that ESPN has taken it over there's quite a few times where the 3:30pm ABC game isn't necessarily the best game for a conference, but in a regional situation gets them more eyeballs and fulfills contractual obligations.

I'll argue that the 12 game schedule has made a mess of things too. Less flexibility to move games around, particularly for conferences that play a championship game.

But hey whatever makes you feel better about yourself buddy. My school was in the 4th year of having a football program when I started there so I didn't go for sports. Good for you on Pitt being better. (assuming you went to Pitt)

Pitt could even win that game for all we know. That still isn't a matchup for a holiday night game. If you can't be impartial to see that then so be it.

Would Ga Tech vs the Noles on Labor Day meet your approval?

More from the Orlando Senitnel re: FSU at Pitt on Labor Day

http://www.fbschedules.com/2013/02/flori...labor-day/

It is possibly that Villanova only has 9/14 open, so that would necessitate moving the New Mexico-Pitt game too.

Not talking about my approval as far as TV. I will watch every FSU game. Doesn't matter who they play.

I remember Miami/FSU being on Labor Day before and such. To me the networks would be smart to get a marque matchup on that day. This doesn't fit that at all.

My question is though... would you consider FSU vs GaTech on Labor Day as marque?

RE: [MERGED] Check out ACC.com at 11 A.M for football schedules
Nationally not at this time. When G Tech was better, yes it would be. If they played every year as they should, it would help too. But the ACC is trying to kill any rivalry by not tweaking their divisions. 2 meetings in 12 years isn't going to make it a rivalry ever and with the proximity of the schools, only the ACC would think it makes sense to separate them.

I was already planning to go to this game too. Was hoping for a Saturday so I wouldn't have to take a vacation day but I was prepared to take Friday off if need be for a TH game. With Labor Day being a day I usually spend with family though, I probably won't go if it is that day.

I would however not be surprised if the ACC threw FSU on the road for a Thursday night game against Pitt because that is how the ACC loves to schedule FSU.

would you rather visit pitt in november?

It'd be a decent game and get solid ratings (mostly due to the time slot and not the actual matchup, though). I wouldn't call it "a 100% national audience," but whatever.

I kinda don't care when the game is. Should be a fun afternoon or evening regardless. Early Sept is hot AF and I'd rather the game be a Prime Time game. Ragu, I don't want to argue w/ you if this is a marquee game or not because frankly I could care less. I'll be at this game for sure. FSU seems to be the side that's pushing the Labor Day date.

Either way, I hope both Ragu and Marge comes up to Heinz...

Any word on the release? Sounds like the Labor Day Game and Cuse's empty slot are all that need to be finalized.

Might hear something next week. Depends how quickly those two pieces fall into place. ACC probably isn't going to release a schedule that has "TBA at Syracuse" on it or one that says there will be a Labor Day game, but that they can't announce it yet.

I'd think it has more national appeal than the VT/GT matchup from last year and last years matchup was the second highest rated game of the weekend.

id think the schools were likely given a final draft of the schedule last week to look over and submit any concerns with it for there school. so syracuse should be abl to lineup there final game with firm dates that are open for the game. The labor day stuff shouldnt take that long to move games around.

They probably saw a draft of it at the winter meetings. Might have also been required to provide any updates on any games that were in process of being finalized (ie. ULM-WF) and if any teams targeted for a Labor Day game were able to discuss moving out of conference games with other schools.

ESPN and Raycom may have also solicited some information about specific games over the 1st three weeks of the season before spring ball starts with the intention of making those picks in mid-May while at the ACC spring meetings. It sounds like both were in attendance at the winter meetings.

I'm wary of this one. As CatDaddy can attest to, Clemson's administration really dislikes Thursday night home games. Per the article Clemson has played 10 Thursday night games on ESPN.

http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20.../121029687

The last Clemson Thursday night home game that I could find was vs. NC State in 2002.

haha... I doubt I'd shout anti-ACC slurs at a football game. I'd be more concerned w/ Pitt whipping FSU's ass. 05-stirthepot
