Good. Labor Day night would have made it rough for a significant portion of the fanbase.

Of course with the vindictive nature of our TV "partner" it probably means we can look forward to a noon start.

You underestimate the vengeful nature of our TV "partner".

Clemson has refused to play Thursday night games when asked by ESPN because of the inconvenience it puts on both the school and the fans. As such it's last prime time Saturday Night conference game was against FSU in 2009, and it will be at least 1407 days between home conference primetime games, and that's if our ACC opener on 9/14 is picked. Coincidence? I highly doubt it.

MattSarz: You hearing anything on Cuse and Pitt hosting ACC teams for the first game? It might make for a decent game to see Clemson and Cuse (for example) to open up the conference season in mid/late September...say a 3:30pm ABC game?

Potential problem: The Labor Day night spot is owned by the ACC, but who owns the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game? Isn't that an SEC home game? (I'm not sure)

SU takes the same position on Thursday games, but have compromised with ESPN by agreeing to play Fridays.

We can't do that, because unlike NY state high school football is a big deal down here.

No I haven't. As for the UCF thing, haven't heard that either and UCF has a full schedule. All of the Big East teams for 2013 have 12 games set. UCF has home games vs. South Carolina, Akron (which was moved today to Thursday 8/29, so its staying) and Bethune-Cookman. The road game is at FIU.

UCF plays eight games in the state of Florida next year. All out of conference games plus the four Big East home games. I'd find it tough to give up a non-conference game, especially if SU is asking for UCF to come to NY first.

It has its own TV deal. Game belongs to no one's TV deal. Same with the Cowboys game.

As for Labor Day, its possible that the ACC wouldn't be able to provide a suitable game for TV. I believe the ACC was given that option to provide a game for Labor Day under the TV deal from '03 (with it reaffirmed in the last deal), but in '08 there wasn't an ACC Labor Day game. Fresno St. at Rutgers followed by Tennessee at UCLA.

RE: [MERGED] Check out ACC.com at 11 A.M for football schedules
Games on Labor Day since '06 (when ABC stopped showing a game that night)

'06: Miami - FSU
'07: Texas Tech-SMU, Florida St.-Clemson
'08: Fresno St.-Rutgers, Tennessee-UCLA
'09: Cincy-Rutgers, Miami (FL)-FSU
'10: Navy-Maryland, Boise St.-VT (both were played off campus)
'11: Miami-Maryland
'12: Georgia Tech-Virginia Tech

Maybe the ACC would be able to convince a road team to play on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Depends how willing the ACC schools would be to play on Sunday. BYU-Virginia would be unavailable for that option with the Cougars not available for Sunday play, no exceptions.

Matt, if I remember correctly, the TV contract with the explicit Labor Day deal technically began with the 2011 season... so only the last 2 years would be on that contract, right?

Also, what's up with Syracuse' last OOC opponent? I think the ACC is waiting on Wake and SU to get a 12th game in order to fill out the schedule...

Sigh...sounds like it might be a 1AA game then.

Mark: The delay obviously was due to the conference realignment mess as the ACC went from 9 to 8 games. Hopefully our new scheduling guy in the AD will be quicker in the out years.

teams currently in need of a non-conference game: Syracuse, Wake Forest, Missouri, Arkansas State, Georgia State, South Alabama, Texas State, UL Lafayette, ULM, and Western Kentucky.

Mizzou worked out pretty well for you last year... 04-rock

My advice: stay away from ULM and UL Lafayette - too unpredictable.

I'd love to get Mizzou to return to the Dome...we were forced to take $800k and do a one and done at Mizzou. Out of the others I'd take Texas State.
