After it's renovation the Cramton Bowl is in MUCH better shape than legion Field. I toured it during its renovation. A good friend of mine was the architect.

I was at a high school game at the Crampton Bowl two years ago, while the renovations were going on. It was a mess, but it looked like it was going to be pretty nice when it was finished.

From your technical / architectural viewpoint, what renovations used for Cramton would be useful for Legion Field? (I have not been to Cramton Bowl since B.U.S. played Catholic High in 1957 in our first season of football. We lost 72-0 but the game wasn't actually that close.)

Some of the same things can be done at LF. Reduce capacity, beef it up structurally, give it a face lift. At the age and shape of LF that money would best be utilized on a new facility. If I were the City I would work with UAB in building a 40-50K seat facility for them on the South Side. I would make UAB the primary tenant and take a % of the parking and concessions while allowing UAB to keep the majority.

Supposedly that has been discussed but the sides could not agree on some of the details. I think it was at the site that was proposed for a WalMart a few years ago. And then the OCS thing came up and the whole idea was canned. I doubt anything happens between the city and UAB until the OCS issue is decided one way or the other.

City Council Chairman Roderick Royal didn't want a downtown baseball park, and the council voted it in anyway. And now the mayor is championing another 3 million be put toward the ballpark, and Royla is intent on blocking the expenditure for the overage. I'm thinking Royal has to go before the city will be able to build another stadium.

Royal changed when he was interim mayor (for about a month). Since then he has been anti-Bell on everything as if he's gonna run for mayor at the next election. I'm seen this before and that's what I think is going on here. After years of stating he didn't want to be mayor he got a taste of whatever "power" the mayor has and he wants it.

We are going today. Any other Blazers gonna be there? We went to the fan day on friday and met Burdette and Hubbard. Both real nice guys. A lot of players were highly complimentery of Burdette. Also met Dan Reeves, Billy "white shoes" Johnson, Steve Atwater and a couple of other coaches. CNC didnt meet the fans, but had gone back to the hotel.

I watched parts of the game but during one part on the game, they mentioned that the Crampton Bowl was UAT backup stadium back in the 20-50's. What's the case now & what is UAB's backup stadium in case, I assume, an act of god?

Lawson Field perhaps?

Is there a source of grading for players in this game? The only play I saw for Burdette was a head-on tackle at the two with no backup help and the RB carrying him into the end zone for his TD. I never found Hubbard in any individual play.

During that period, Bama played its major games in B'ham at Legion Field (as did AU) so the only games they might have moved from Denney were the "OOC buy games" and minor SEC games. All major additions to Denney have been since the 1980s when it became Bryant-Denney and first AU then Bama moved their major SEC games, then all games, to their campus.

Hubbard had a good game. Lots of hustle. We sat next to his family. Marvin didnt have a great game, but made some nice plays. He made a nice hit on one of the goal line tds, but a teammate hit Burdette and knocked to ball carrier loose.

Several players at fan day said Marvin had a real good week. We were wearing our Blazer Gear and several folks commented on us being Blazer fans. There were a couple other Blazer fans there as well.
