If we want to win the west and have a chance in the tournament the Klein is the point, Brown it the shooting guard with Ritchie bacing him up. Pokley gets 10 minutes a game max.

RE: Ohio Game thread
Yeah, the charge call at the end was called on David Brown.

Totally vintage terrible MAC officiating. Bad calls are one thing. Inconsistent is another.

Went both ways though.

WMU should have won this game IMO.

Lack of overall offense/scoring with this group is beginning to be a concern.

RE: Ohio Game thread
Randoms...

We blew multiple chances in the first half. Lots of missed layups. An untimely turnover here and there. We should have been nursing a ten point lead.

Ohio does a really good job limiting 3 point attempts. I think they were a top 20 team in this are last year. They've slipped a bit this year, but they still made it difficult for us to get a clean look. Usually we can count on wmu hitting 6-8 three pointers at UA. No such luxury in this game.

I thought JC managed his bench really well with the foul trouble.

I think Baltic and offutt were limited to under five points apiece. I'd take that all day long. Unfortunately we couldn't contain their shooters the entire game. They got a couple open looks in the second half that were killers. Offutt reminds me of Ben Reed only 15 pounds lighter.

Klein needs to get 25+ mins. I can live with the mistakes when he's pushing the ball.

We need shooters and another guy that can penetrate effectively.

I think Tava is having trouble adjusting to the speed of the game.

Paul has had two tough match ups. They should get easier going forward and hopefully he returns to double digit scoring.

I know offutt plays good D, but we should have gone to hutch in the post a lot more.

I thought we could have gotten a better look on the out of bounds play to end the game. I haven't seen the replay, but I think shayne ended up with offutt guarding him due to a switch. I thought an alley oop layup could have developed, but we passed to brown instead.

Nobody had us pencilled in for wins in the last two games. No sense in dwelling on them. Toledo is looming and it's time for a beat down.

Our offense is brutal right now. It struggles against pressure defense. My buddy asked me at one point in the second half, "who is gonna score with the current lineup"?

Cooper talks more trash than any player I've seen in the Mac during the last decade.

See you fellas Wednesday night.

RE: Ohio Game thread
Charge looked completely bogus to me but I was watching online so I couldn't tell definitively. Good to see that those who were there felt the same way.

Klein looked good. Anyone have any thoughts on what DB can bring in the near future? Is he shaking the rust off or have the injuries relegated his ceiling to role player? I didn't get to see the whole game but if someone could comment, I'd appreciate it

RE: Ohio Game thread
I think Brown just needs some time to get back into game shape. He appeared tired at points in the Akron and the Ohio game. Just needs to get his legs back under him and then he'll be great for WMU offensively.

Agree
This team needs to get some consistent scoring from the 1&2 spots to give Paull and Shane space inside. Klein and Brown need to get the most minutes at those spots.
Looks like the trainers are allowing Hawkins to play David Brown only X amount of minutes per game. Hawkins saved most of them for late in the game.

Quote:Shane and Paul have to finish inside

I'm not sure that either is capable or catching the ball on the block and scoring with any consistency.

Neither finish well while being bumped.

Each has been more effective when catching the ball in the "mid range" where they are a threat to shoot a jumper, or put the ball on the floor.

Hutch does not finish when he gets bumped either.

Tava is better

I thought the charge was legit... player control moreso than set defender. But I'm a Bobcat fan and possibly biased.

I mostly came by to say yesterday was one of the better road trips I've taken. You folks at Read Fieldhouse were very kind and we'll see you in Cleveland.

Traditionally, when a bench player outshines a starter he disappears in the next game. That's traditionally at WMU anyway. Look for Klein to get 3 minutes in the next game. 03-weeping

I'm not sure. My eyes followed the ball.

Anyone else see this call?

Yes. They called it a charge on Brown. Not on Shayne. It was probably the right as Brown was left his feet and was out of control. Alot of bodies in he lane to be able to say for sure.

Jared Klein was listening to Hawk when he had the ball stolen, after Hawks "stupid" command to go for the last shot of the half with 35 seconds left.

Coaching this half time last shot decision we went from 1 point down to 5 down and never got a shot off? Why go for the last shot of the half, it changes our tempo on offense! Who cares & what difference would it make, halftime "momentum" say all coaches. Stupid decision!!

Hawkins is terrible coach, he left Hutchinson on the bench in the second half for 10 minutes, and Ohio built the lead to 12. With 3:35 to go assistant Coach Bates had to remind Hawkins! Hutch was on the bench?

That was two errors that cost us the game.
#1 going for last shot of half, cost us 4 points, (we lost by 2)
#2 leaving your most athletic player with the most experience on the bench for 10 minutes in the middle of the second half, and forgetting about him!!!!!

Do you sit close enough that you actually witnessed this?

I mean, I've forgot when I've had key players sitting too long, but I was just a dunderhead middle school coach.

I was about 10 - 12 rows up behind bench, I saw Bates stand up and whisper in Hawkins ear during a free throw, then pointed down the bench. Hawkins called Hutch up and put him in immediately.

Still think Hawkins forgets who is in the game, he spends so much time complaining about calls.

I agree. Hawkins spends 90% of his time whining about the calls.

FWIW The facts show a different version.
WMU actually closed the gap with Hutch on the bench.

- Hutch played 27 min Saturday. 2nd most on team.

SUB OUT: Nate Hutcheson 12:47 score WMU 31 - Ohio 43
SUB IN : Nate Hutcheson 05:11 score WMU 48- Ohio 55

For the first time in Hutcheson's career, he IS the game plan for opposing teams.

03-pissed Don't let fact get in the way of a good rant against our coach. However it is a really pleasant suprise to read the truth here every now and then. Thanks for pointing it out. But rest assured you will soon be taken to task by the great potato. I hadn't posted more than a few times till he trashed me. However some how I manage to carry on rooting for my Broncos.
