In Hawk's defense, he did say that it could be the shortest postgame interview in history because we were awful.

Wish he'd have said, "because I was awful." When you consistently lose this badly to one team, it's less on the players and more on the brains behind the operation.

Yes! Please be accountable for the results on the floor for once. Just not getting it done against Dambrot. It's a pattern, not isolated to one poor performance!

RE: Hawk post game excuse thread
Pretty much every team in the Mid-American Conference, with the exception of maybe Kent, Ohio, and Buffalo, has struggled against Dambrot/Akron. They're a pretty good team.

Dambrot's record vs. the MAC:
Kent/Ohio/Buffalo: 30-25 (doesn't have a losing record against any of them)
Miami: 13-5
BGSU: 15-1
WMU: 12-3
EMU: 10-2
CMU: 9-1
Toledo: 8-3
Ball St: 8-0
NIU: 4-3

I agree that WMU has struggled against Akron (especially emphasized by losing 4 in a row to them in the MAC tourney) but this isn't just limited to WMU.

I think "struggled" is an understatement.

But using that term, why has he "struggled"?

Bo Ryan has "struggled" against Tom Izzo.

Gary Williams has "struggled" against Mike Krzyzewski.

Jamie Dixon has "struggled" against Jim Boeheim.

Hopefully you understand my point...

RE: Hawk post game excuse thread
I guess this is the dilemma for many teams in the MAC and other "mid major" conferences. Do you stay with a 'good' coach like Hawk who is happy to be here and provided some long term stability to our program? Or do you try to land the next young 'hot' coach that will be here for 3-4 years and in that 3rd or 4th year win the league title/tourney and make a good run in the dance?

That is exactly what happened to the 76 team with Eldon Miller.

Akron is lucky to have a very good coach who seems to be sticking around and has really helped lift them to elite level in the MAC.
Shaka Smart is like that at VCU as another example.

I personally enjoy following this team that is consistently good, not great, and yet I do think a coach like Hawk will have to have that super year and win it all in the next year or two with this group. I see this current roster as having the talent to do that. Have a strong year this year, and pull it off next year. I don't think we can afford to win any less than 19 games this year, and figure to have that breakout year next year, if that makes any sense.

I also believe that it is totally acceptable to disagree with our coaches strategies and decisions. In fact I enjoy analysis from us 'bench coaches'. But until they fire Hawk, I will support him and believe we will get there up to the point I just outlined.

04-cheers Great points all, which the HAWK HATERS will take great issue with since once again facts are behind your post. However I doubt that we get to 19 wins without changes in playing time for a couple of players. 17 would seem more likely in my opinion. Hope I'm wrong. Now lets go get those Bobcats today.

Hawk has started good, then pretty good, and since our program has slid to mediocre, aside from the "mythical MAC West" finishes and padded wins against those weak teams.

I think Boogie is right on the mark, he's recruited talent (once again) and should be expected to win with them in the next couple of seasons. No reason why not. Can't blame the players, can't blame a malcontent center, can't blame weary legs, nothing, no excuses. Man up and win, or be held accountable, and it'll coincide with the end of his contract so the hand wringing won't have to include buyout clauses and the like. I think that's more than fair.

This league comes down to the MAC Tourney. We haven't got past the 2nd round in 9 years.

Let me get this straight, you're happy with 1 and out, or 2 and out in every MAC Tourney? You're happy with an occasional meaningless MAC West title in the weakest division in DI hoops?

Dambrot is sitting on baggage left over from CMU, and big schools don't want their name attached to it.

I'll chit my pants the day we get past the 2nd round of the Tourney

Ryan, Dixon and Williams have great success in their craft. This bozo not so much in the worst division in D 1 basketball

I got that all the coaches mentioned are comparable in success and have struggled with individual coaches at length. Problem is Hawk has had no success ( the closest being getting John Wooden on time to a camp meeting) The others have won bigtime conferences and got to the Final 4. Hawks a chump

RE: Hawk post game excuse thread
Believe me Chip I'm just as frustrated with our mediocrity as anyone, but I guess I'm into reality, and know that Hawk won't get canned this year. So I'm trying to make the best of it as a loyal fan of Bronco basketball.
After I posted my little coaching analysis I really thought about it, and I came to the conclusion that yes I would like to get that young, brilliant Mark Fell type to come in here for 3 years, do everything right, and take us to the big Kahoona Dance. And then leave for a bigger program. It would be better than mucking around in this mediocrity.
And no, 1 or 2 and out is definitely unacceptable cause I'm one of the Bronco fans that travels to Cleveland to cheer on our guys, and gets my heart broke every year.

Bummer about that Bronco/Raven game.

Moore (SS) letting that WR beat him deep............that guy may not have a job next year.
