Lyle loses 2 WR, QB, and DE
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Topflight Tennessee receivers Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson, along with quarterback Tyler Bray and defensive end Darrington Sentimore, are bypassing their senior seasons to enter the NFL draft.

The university announced their decisions in a release Wednesday.

Hunter is ranked first among prospective junior receivers and 25th overall by ESPN Scouts Inc. Patterson is ranked third among junior wideouts and 32nd overall. Bray is sixth among junior quarterbacks but unranked overall.

Patterson caught 46 passes for 778 yards and five touchdowns this fall as a first-team all-Southeastern Conference all-purpose player. Hunter had 73 receptions for 1,083 yards and nine touchdowns as a second-team all-SEC pick.

Bray threw for 3,612 yards and 34 touchdowns this season to rank second on Tennessee's single-season list in both categories, behind Peyton Manning's 3,819 yards and 36 touchdown passes in 1997. Bray also threw 12 interceptions.

Sentimore had 18 overall tackles -- five for loss -- and a team-high four sacks this fall.

Hasty decision. They'll look back on this years from now and will regret not learning how to chest bump.

What's the point of calling him Lyle instead of Butch?

I could understand if he left UC in a worse place than when he arrived, but he didn't. The past three coaches have done a good job building UC up. I expect TT to do the same.

Am I supposed to start calling Tommy "Hawley" when he leaves or retires? What about Mick, does he go to "Micky"?

Sentimore going pro is an absolute joke. That guy will never be drafted. He had a terrible junior season and was a JUCO before that.

Lyle Representing the T or Vol for Life or whatever also lost more than that.

http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2013/jan/...ips-trent/
Defensive linemen Trent Taylor and Omari Phillips and defensive back Deion Bonner won't be part of the program moving forward, according to UT spokesperson Jimmy Stanton.
In April of 2011, Bonner and two teammates from Carver High School in Columbus, Ga., were arrested by University of Georgia police for stealing iPods and iPhones from the lockers of seven Georgia football players during a recruiting visit. Bonner, an all-state player who was rated a three-star prospect by 247 Sports, saw his recruiting stock plummet after the arrest, but Dooley didn't pull his scholarship offer, saying he deserved a second chance.

It's not about the team being better. It's about the program being better. Which it undoubtedly is. I don't think we could have gotten a coach like Tuberville 3 years ago. Back then, we had finished the season ranked under exactly one coach in our whole history. Thanks to Jones, instead of being viewed as a program that got lucky in picking a good coach (like Texas Tech), we're viewed as a place that can be consistently successful.

The part the coach affects, IMO, is how good the team is. Our team is worse. We could debate whether the program is better or worse off (personally I think the conference stuff has neutralized any positive momentum of the last 3 years), but I think most of that good and bad is out of the coach's control. If our team is in a better position, it's mostly because more years have passed with us on the national scene and it takes time to grow.

The coach affects the entire football program and athletic department. If you're only looking at wins and losses, you're missing the big picture. It doesn't tell the story of what he had in terms of a roster coming in, battling with conference uncertainty, etc. His recruiting classes have continued the upward trend that Dantonio and Kelly had established. All three of those guys did an excellent job putting Cincinnati Football on the map nationally.

RE: Lyle loses 2 WR, QB, and DE
Coaches leaving never affect the program in a good way...well unless they just arent any good. Kelly recruited his type of players for the type of football he ran. When he left Lyle was left with his players, yet played a different game. So he started recruiting his players. Neither of these guys got to coach a full season with only players they recruited. Now TT is coming into a system with another mans players. So its going to take another 3-4 years for him to be able to put "his" product on the football field. So the past 6 years weve been rebuilding and now we have another 3 more until we can finally get what TT wants. So id say we are definitely not better off. Im not saying we wont win, because we still have good college football players, but to say we are better off now is wrong. These are lyles players that now have to learn a completely different game of football than what they were recruited for
