Xavier too?
Pastner quoted in the paper today as saying that he wants the Xavier series to expire after this year. Who are we going to play out of conference next year?
Xavier was the best opponent we had at the Forum last year. Atmosphere was electric.
I'm just really disappointed by the scheduling moves. Sure, drop UT, but let's play someone. The Xavier announcement is even more troubling than the UT one.
I don't like Calipari, but at least we used to play people.
Remember having series with:
Gonzaga
Illinois
Georgetown
Missouri
Texas
Purdue
Arizona
The Forum was awesome during those games. Now the atmosphere isn't anywhere close.
Remember when we had a strength of schedule that we would hang out hats on at selection time? Now it's +100.
This is the wrong direction.

We got lucky that some things panned out with other teams.
Did we also let Miami expire? Or was that due to the football game being cancelled?
Personally, I think Josh should use his Arizona pull to secure a home and home with them and then pursue a 2 or 3 for 1 with Belmont (the one return trip to Belmont would be a fun game to go to).

We also got unlucky this season. Ex: When a team returns pretty much their entire line up from a Sweet 16 run, you expect their RPI to be better than 150.
I agree, Josh needs to be more aggressive in his scheduling.

Keep in mind he thought he was going to a loaded Big East up until a few weeks ago. We were supposed to have Boise and SDSU as apart of a deal and he must have a certain number of home games to pay for every other sport on campus, those buy games that we don't have to return. Hopefully with the league falling apart he will revisit it all. I am fine if we never play UT in anything again!!!

If you don't like it, get yourself a coaching job and then make your own schedule.

Xavier is not the same as it was under Sean Miller. As Mack starts bringing in his recruits the honeymoon is ending in Cincy.
They have lost to Wofford,Wake Forest and Vandy so far , 2 at home.
As for UT , 1 FB game = 1 BB game RC ain't walkin' through that door.....

Xavier was supposed to be one of our top 3 home games this season, and they've turning out to be horrendous. They're 7-6 right now.
If we're going to have a depressed SOS in conference (which I'm not sure we will), then we need consistent OOC seriesmates. Xavier is not consistent and they're really screwing us this season.

How do we know that is always US that allows those games to expire?
I agree, that list of games is awesome.
Is it possible that in anticipation of what the Big East was expected to be, that we had to adjust our schedule?

We need to have home and home series with ACC and B12 schools to help set our table and form allies in those conferences.

basketball isn't like football where you make out the schedule years in advance. He can find teams this summer once the dust settles on what our conference schedule will look like. If he doesn't, then he will hear it from the paying customers.

Wolken got killed on here back in 2010 talking about the Tigers' terrible home schedule.
Heck, in the past three years (approx 30 non-conference home games) here are the "BIG" names that have come to FEF:
(#6) Louisville
(#9) Georgetown
(NR) Tennessee
(NR) Xavier
(NR) Miami (FL)
No surprise, but attendance over the past three years has dipped:
2010-11: 16,768
2011-12: 16,234
2012-13: (thru nine games) 16,108

RE: Xavier too?
Yep, scheduling worthy opponents at home is crucial but very difficult (as has been discussed in other threads). With the BE in flux & recent word from the C7 that they want to excellerate their departure from the BE by a year, scheduling is an even bigger challenge than normal. Also, I don't think, at this point, we can point the finger at JP, he seems to be getting a lot of help from Bowen (see the Ole Miss deal).

Evidently, attendence hasn't dropped enough for the powers to be to make a change.

RE: Xavier too?
I'm afraid that will come. Don't know how much longer that we can live on inflated "announced attendance".
As I've said in other threads, we can not afford to be picky about how we schedule the top teams. We may be overestimating the current value of our brand and might need to swallow some of the resistance to 2 for 1 games, and other such deals.
I believe our reputation for winning 25 plus games but not playing the big boys has caught up with us---some time ago as a matter of fact. Even Cal fought that stigma.
Never thought our basketball schedule would mirror the horrendous football schedule.
Of course, that is all just my opinion

Yeah, I don't know why I threw "home" games in there. I think i meant "OOC" games. Still Xavier is blowing ass this season and it hurts us.

RE: Xavier too?
Cal started this scheduling foolishness because of his chicken **** opinion about recruiting. How many hometown recruits over the years did we lose to Arkansas, Ole Miss and Tennessee strictly because we play them every other year in Memphis. The biggest name Memphis product I can recall leaving was Todd Day, the others may not have been our priority recruit but we would have gladly taken them (ie. Beck, Martin, Stewart, Huery).
We can't have it both ways. Josh can't complain about CUSA andrefuse to play top teams in non-conference. We could have built iour own Big East-type schedule with Ark,Texas,Tenn, Indiana, NC State etc. Not all of them of course but there are enough quality teams to give us a great schedule. I know CJP said he tried to get Kansas but I believe we deserve better. I also believe he would have an easier time attracting recuits with a more competitive schedule. If we start winning them then the networks will put us in the rotation. Sorry for the rant but I'm sick of excuses for why our OOC sucks. Obviously we can scale back after we change conferences but this is ridiculous!!!

Harvard is down this year too. And for all the hullabaloo around the UT series, they're probably going to miss the tournament this season. It's always a crap shoot when scheduling.
But right now, our gimme game opponent are REALLY doing poorly.
