FSU Head Coach Fisher Comments after Arriving in Miami
Coach Comments regarding NIU

"Very good football team. They've got a quarterback that's very dynamic, can run it and can throw. They've got other playmakers there too on defense. They're extremely sound. They can rush the passer up front, can play the run and they're very multiple in their coverages. They do a great job, very sound. Heck of a football team."

NIU QB Comparisons to other ACC QBs

"I think he's very unique to himself. Sometimes we try to compare players to different guys, but I think he's very unique to himself in that he's very tough and rugged. To be able to carry the ball that many times and not be injured and the inside runs that he does while still being able to create the passes - I think he's very unique."

I definitely do not think the FSU staff will overlook the matchup and will not buy into the large vegas line.

No surprise here.....FSU will key on Lynch and probably hold him in check....we will need production from RB's, especially Akeem if we expect success in this game. Our young O line will definitely be tested on New Year's night.

I just don't think it's a good match up for Daniels. I don't see how he does well against that defense.

I think the WR's and Lynch (passing and running) will have to carry the load. Hit a few passes early and maybe you can spread them out enough to help out the OLine and Lynch run. If Lynch is held in check, I don't see how the team wins unless FSU turns the ball over a bunch.

I agree, Daniel's best attributes are his speed and shiftiness...that won't do much against FSU. I do think he can do some damage in the passing game. hopefully one of those wheel routes can work.

Yeah.. I should say I don't see how Daniels is successful running the ball, I wouldn't be surprised if he broke a big wheel route or had a big gain on a dump off pass in open space. Just think it'll be real tough for him to get to the open field running the ball.

Yeah, I agree. Thing is, this is the Orange Bowl -- they need to win. This isn't the 90s when they were dominant... they're trying to re-define themselves and they were supposed to be national championship contenders. There would be a better chance to beat them mid-season, much like NC State did.

But they're going to take this darn seriously. I have a feeling that NIU will get smothered at the line of scrimmage and will have to squeeze blood out of a stone for yards after catch or running it when it's even semi-predictable. Essentially -- big plays on offense, and not giving up big plays on defense... and turnovers, turnovers, penalties, turnovers, penalties. And of course, smart play, and not choking due to being in the spotlight, etc. If that happens, they'll be battling with a non-lazy FSU decently well.

But I have a feeling FSU will come to play, NIU will be feeling under the lights a bit too much... FSU will turn the ball over one more time than NIU, in a 2-1 battle... but NIU loses by 17, coming back in the end to cut a 24pt lead to 17. That's my SAFE PICK, being a fan of the MAC.

I would be mildly surprised, but not shocked, if NIU comes out well prepared and has things set up where it's pretty close, they beat the spread, and FSU "survives".

Just don't see where Lynch is going to have much running room.....he can't dominate this game with his legs. Which means if we have little or no production from our RB's, we have to rely on the passing game.....not a good scenario. FSU turnovers would help, but I just don't see that happening

The local Herald writer, David Neal, has been positive about the Huskies. He wrote another one today:

I don't think he'll have a lot of room either, but he needs less room than Daniels would. Lynch is a much bigger running back, and going to break more arm tackles than Daniels would. That's why I'd think Lynch would be more successful against a team like FSU. Daniels isn't going to be able to outrun these guys, and that's his best trait. He's tough for his size, but he's not a bruiser.

But if you get the fast defensive guys going the wrong direction, or you execute and get the guys blocked, Daniels' speed can balance out FSU's speed somewhat.

Hopefully he'll prove me wrong, but I have a feeling his speed is going to be negated by FSU's, on any normal run play. I do like Daniels a lot, he's been by far the best RB on the team this year, I just think FSU is going to slow down any normal run game.

He's tough for his size, and very quick, but I don't see him outrunning this defense, and I don't see him breaking a lot of tackles either, tough as he is. I just think it's a bad match up for him. I'd rather see him up against a big, slow defense, that would bottle him up for 5 out of 6 plays and then he could break loose for a big gain. I don't see those types of big plays against this team. They give up less than 100 yards rushing a game. I'm really not trying to cut down Daniels, I just think very highly of FSU's speed on defense.

I think in open space, he certainly could make people miss, even elite defenders like the one's FSU has, and make some big plays. I just don't think he'll get to that open space in a traditional run play.

RE: FSU Head Coach Fisher Comments after Arriving in Miami
I have seen FSU in person against USF here in Tampa at Raymond James and on TV a couple of times this year. The one thing I have noticed is that their defense is fast and they just swarm to stop the run. I recall them being really good against the run but not as good against the pass. They are going to have a lot of time to prepare for Lynch so I hope NIU brings some other tricks. I have a feeling that Lynch is going to get hit early and often. Nobody in the MAC has the size or speed of the D Line that FSU is going to bring to the table. I also dont think anyone has played anyone nearly as good as FSU this year. There was a lot of weakness in the BCS teams we played collectively. I am optomistic but worried that Lynch is going to get beat up pretty good, especially after the comments that Jimbo Fisher made, "they recognize he is unique" and must do something about it. Jimbo Fisher is a great coach, so no weakness there. Come on Huskies!

I agree. And what REALLY worries me....that they will target Lynch. Target him - injure him - to take out of the game with enough hard hits. Without Jordan we are screwed...plain & simple . And they know it.

Jimbo commented he is surprised how many interior runs he has taken without getting hurt. You have to admit, many QB's that run that much get hurt. Here is hoping that Lynch doesnt get hurt. But I do have a feeling that FSU will slow him down a good deal so other players and their efforts will be very important.

Maybe someone remembers otherwise, but I don't even remember Lynch really getting shook up at all this year...only times we put the back-up in were designed plays to just give Jordan a break.

He's either that tough and knows how to take hits or we've been really lucky.

Last year, Harnish looked like he wasn't getting up after taking some of those hits. This year, Lynch just gets up like it's nothing. But I'm sure he feels it after the game.

Yes there were a few times that Lynch came up slow and even McIntosh came in for a play or two.
