Walk-on Schepler
This is what upcoaching is all about.

Off the field, Schepler carries a 3.86 GPA, and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering last week.

RE: Walk-on Schepler
I was thinking about this last week, thought about starting a new thread. Who's the biggest loss going in to next year? My underrated loss was going to be Schepler before huskiewire stole my thunder!

He has been so unheralded for Lynch's success running the ball, he's a great 2 level blocker that gets hardly any credit.

The Huskies success has been built on the backs of guys like Jason Schepler. He'll go down in the Craig Rusch, Jake Hoffman type category for me.

Enjoy Miami, Schep!

Met Schepler and his family at Pizza Villa after the UMass. Seems like a great kid. Makes you proud that we have several players who are class acts such as him. Let's keep recruiting and signing guys like that.

NIU has a solid history of success with walk-ons. I hope Coach Carey continues to focus on bringing quality non scholarship kids into the program.

You are right. It is like an internship. You get a player for free, see him practice, check his work ethic, up coach him and then bring him on with a full ride or let him go.

Agree completely. This has been especially effective when getting talented local players (no less than 8 on the current roster) who choose to walk on, and if they make consistent contributions in game situations, eventually earn a scholarship.
