Athlon's 2013 preview gives no NIU mention as being close to the top 25

After seeing some of the teams on here and the rankings of others, the guy has no credibility in my book.

If NIU wins the OB I'd bet they're ranked in the preseason. Lose, probably not.

Yeah, if they lose, it would just depend on how much homework the voters do. Also remember that with a loss, we are most likely still ranked in the final poll unless it's an absolute beating. And that's the first thing the voters will look at.

Jordon Lynch's 2013 Heisman Trophy campaign begins on January 1.

By the way, the Heisman Trophy is a bunch of political BS.

Win or lose i don't expect us to be in the preseason top 25. This is NIU, probably the least recognized top mid-major program out there. We are continually undervalued by the media and coaches.

There is a greater chance that the 2013 preseason top 25 has no mid-major teams than us being in it. Remember, Boise State is in the Big East next year so they are no longer mid-major.

Agree completely. Florida State not in top 5???

N/D was unranked this season as was NIU. Looks like we will need a win against Florida State to put us in contention for a top 25 ranking.

Louisville ranked so high! I thought their QB was badly injured.
Incredible play making ability, vision, leadership and talent but on one leg?

They probably use rankings, combined with big name schools with years of success at the top level.

With the longest National:(1) home record,(2) Conference record, (3) Heisman QB prospect in a conference which produced Big Ben!

Sad that NIU 1) Does not have the power to schedule big names in DeKalb. 2) Is not a top 25 prospect and still not yet recognized despite an incredible decade of Football.

How many years to we need to finish in the top 25, while maintianing the core of our team, to be pre season top 25? This will be 2 in row.... Just saying...

Well.... Unfortunately we have finished #26 2 years in a row. I don't believe we've ever finished in the top 25 of the major polls.
