Orange Bowl Parking
So apparently parking is $20 in advance, and $30 when you get there for the Orange general admission lots. But, with StubHub and the O Bowl's website fees, it ends up still working out to $30 or more. Anyone find a site with discount parking passes, or should I just say the heck with it, and wait until I get down there and pay the $30?

RE: Orange Bowl Parking
I bought mine on Friday. NIU is soldout of parking from what they told me. I just decided to buy it through the Orange Bowl so I don't have to deal with it on gameday.

I was told to just buy it down there because parking passes don't guarantee a better spot.

The NIU parking were Orange Lot passes which is like 98% of the available parking at the stadium. Don't think they have specific Orange Lots, just a bunch and you can park in any of them... At least that's what I was told

I was told the same..NIU was selling the same general passes that the Orange Bowl and Stubhub were, not like SF games where we were grouped together.

RE: Orange Bowl Parking
I obviously don't know if this applies to the Orange Bowl, but this is an interesting tidbit:

Quote:As a Dolphins fan, you want to arrive early to get a prime tailgating spot. Parking lots open four hours before the game begins and remain open two hours after it ends. Fans who arrive within the first hour get to choose where they want to park while all others will be directed where to park by parking attendants.

I guess, while looking at the map, my first inclination was to look in one of the lots furthest to the West.

As an FYI, there is a Walmart and it looks like a liquor store just SW of the stadium, which can come in handy before the game for supplies. If we stay to the West, that is also within walking distance, and then perhaps not being a prime location, more people can be grouped together, especially if we come early.

Agree totally. Lot 10 or 11 is the way to go.

Being close to the Walmart and the liquor store has a lot of advantages. It's great to be able to get supplies and also to be close enough to use their restrooms.

Lot 5 will also work.
Street view image below. Lot 10/11 on the left, lot 5 on the right, Walmart directly behind

Which lot gives us the best chance to get all the Huskie fans together?

Orange Bowl Parking
I agree, with most of us traveling light having a Wally world right next door makes good sense... Not as good of sense as the booze store, but good sense...

Probably lot 10 since most others will be wanting to park closer to the stadium.

Some of the Jacksonville walmarts have a separate liquor store right outside of the main building.. Maybe this one will too

Been searching for a portable, collapsible flag pole suitable to carry on the airplane. Found a few possibilities but wondering if anyone has something to suggest....

Is 40" too long for carry on?

It seems to me the best lots are those FARTHEST from the stadium.

Sure the walk is a bit longer, but won't traffic be a nightmare after the game for those closest to the stadium (e.g., blue lots)?

Won't those drivers be stuck behind those in the outer lots???

I have the 20 ft pole. Works great. But you need the base for another 50+.

I would think you could check a bag w/ the base, and put the pole in a tube, as for fishing. Highly doubt you can carry on.

I actually made a small pole years ago for Sugar Bowl. Snuck it in, but I think they were allowed. Cut a dowl rod in 3 pieces, connected them with copper tubing and used plastic strap ties for the flag. (cut grooves in the dowl rod) I actually fit it in a carry on. Coming back out of Jackson. MS (long story) the old security guy was very confused.

I later built a base with pipe fititng into a piece of plywood for the NIU/TN game to put on top of rental. At OHare and Knoxville I flat out showed them right away. OHare had no issues. Knoxville I think the guy thought it was a type of pipe bomb at fisrt, then laughed.

I am sure with a little Huskie ingenuity, WalMart or a Builders Sq will get the job done with aluminum piping probably.

Of note though, no flagpoles allowed @ Sun Life.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've thought about a home-made job, but short on time...
