not commenting my opinion, but just saying what arguably the best analyst is saying.

Kansas lost 5 games by 20+ points. They played good teams and got pounded, whoopie. NIU won 6 games by 20+ points. When good BCS schools come to DeKalb, I'll start talking strenght of schedule.

These numbers are based on their performance after the end of the season. Of course Kansas has the hardest schedule they were 1-11. Northern had the easiest because of they won all but one of their games.

This is the equivalent of me declaring that NIU's opponents were the weakest at stopping QB rushing.

Agree. What nonsense! It is based on what in Chess is known as a tie breaker based on opponents score(Buchholz system). For chess it is fair as the schedule is not predetermined by College Presidents but by game to game performance. In addition as already stated the teams that lose the most games help the opponents directly.

THe NCAAF is not an open Swiss chess tournament but several geeks use chess methodology like the ELO system or Buchholz system as used above.
In addition, I love the fact that it ignores number of games played and has Alabama who played Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M at #39 and Notre Dame at 10?

It's similar to using Capitalist measures assuming a free economy(Chess Open Swiss format) to judge a controlled economy.(NCAAF schedule controlled by University Presidents).

Agree +1000

How does a team which plays 11 games against Div 1a teams compare to a team that played 10 Div 1a teams?
how can NIU who played Kent State 11 wins and ranked in the top 25, beat
two 9 win teams (one which was ranked in the top 25) have the weakest schedule in NCAAF?

He is anti NIU. I called into his Friday morning show on sattelite radio last Friday and asked him if next season will be the year he predicts NIU to finish better than 3rd in the MAC West. He stammered with his answer and said he thought they would struggle with Western Michigan and Toledo this year. He also said he thought on paper that NIU should be a 24-28 point dog against Florida State. Look at that strength of schedule chart and you will see he has no respect for the MAC! He can suck my low hanging Oranges!

Guys , can we relax just a bit. O.K., here's my take on the game......FSU has more size and speed than we do. It's what happens in the trenches, the line play....can our young O line step up and handle the big D line and the big stage.
Also, we definitely need Akeem D. to make some plays, especially to the outside. Lynch is not going to run wild.
Our wideouts.....I'm looking for Martel to step up and have a big game.
Having said all of that, I'm waiting to see what FSU team shows up.....do they just show up, cruise thru the 1st half? or do they come with an attitude?[/quote]

NC State should have been a 24-28 point dog to FSU too....how'd that work out?

And I hope we struggle as bad against FSU as we did against WMU and Toledo

The discussion could be better debated by arguing at what SOS could NIU have played and still ended up at 12-1
My contention is that the Huskies would remain at 12-1 with the same SOS as the Criminoles. Deal with that.

Add Georgia Tech to that list.

Possibly...definitely a down year in the ACC...but does NIU win the following games and only lose to UF?
  • Clemson
  • Va Tech (away)
  • NC State
  • Miami (away)

I think you end up at 9-3 at best with losses to Clemson, UF, and either Miami or Va Tech. Still a good year and would have been good enough to win the Coastal Division.

By the way...Criminoles??? hmm, never heard that, next you will be calling us Free Shoes University.

Come on, our schedule was disgustingly easy. It is what it is.

Haha...FSU just added Idaho for next year as well. They must need the money. Certainly not adding much to either team's SOS.
