RE: On fire
Hawk has said that he doesnt press because teams break it and get lay ups. Funny, we're not getting lay ups.

RE: On fire
First 30 minutes was fantastic. Everything we needed to do. Last ten minutes was about as bad as we could possibly play. Just glad we got out of there with a win.

RE: On fire
We win....and people want to complain about how we win.

How about acknowledging that we handed them their lunch for 30 minutes during the second game we've played them? Yeah, they let off the gas and it almost bit them....and we committed too many turnovers...oh well, I'll take the W.

Here is a reality check for some of you, the first 30 minutes was all coaching. The last 10 minutes was a whole lot of inexperience. You don't beat a team by 1 point on your home floor, then travel to their place 3 weeks later and take a 25 point lead in the second half without having a superior coaching plan. Yes, they need to learn how to take care of the ball better and close teams out in the second half. Both those come with experience.

Great win for the Broncos!

RE: On fire
We couldn't get the ball inbounds in the final few minutes. We got killed in the zone trap.

I suppose if this were an anomaly I wouldn't be concerned, but it's been going on for ten years.

I firmly believe Hawkins cant coach a zone, a series of inbounds plays, a press, or a press break. Not what he was raised on, and he's not willing to learn new tricks.

You gotta take the bad with the good. He's got strengths and weaknesses. I get frustrated when this board only talks about his weaknesses.

In all fairness, we had 13 turnovers in the first 32 minutes...and 13 turnovers in the last 8. According to mlive, HP went to full court pressure and trapping at that time...after being down 20+. In all fairness, it's tough to play 32 minutes one way and then the opponent goes into desperation mode and gets aggressive. It doesn't help that our ball handlers are inexperienced as well. The good news is there isn't a team on our schedule that can do that for an entire game. Probably not even a whole half. We do need to get better at it though. It will come. This game was a great learning experience and we got the W. This team needs to learn how to close out games, they will only get better.

Well said. The last ten minutes of the game doesn't negate the first 30. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be critical of what happened that allowed HP to get back in the game, but we shouldn't ignore that this team played damn good basketball for 32 minutes.

These things happen with young teams. Inconsistency happens more often minute-to-minute with things like this. Even our upperclassmen haven't played heavy minutes before (minus Hutch). Hoping they can learn to play a full 40 minutes of quality basketball. I think we're closer than some people think. That we've been able to win some games without playing a full 40 minutes of consistent basketball is a good thing (at least that's what I'm telling myself). Our 7-3 record is much better than I had anticipated at this point, and we could very realistically enter conference play 9-4. If somebody told me that at the beginning of November, I'd be doing backflips.

RE: On fire
Those couple of inbounds under the high point basket with less than 30 seconds I was thinking in terms of in bounding the ball way down to the other end of the court. Klein was a quarterback. Line the guys up and run a pass play. Two guys run the corners, two guys run the post. Even if the inbound is intercepted, you are running quite a bit of time off the clock.

Was thinking the exact same thing there.
