Yes, they are arguably the worst bowl team ever...but I would gladly take the 3 extra weeks of practice.

I wouldn't disagree. Certainly the worst bowl team CMU has ever had. But the extra practice time and another showing in Detroit will have its benefits.

Well, I'd say that CMU was on a 3 game winning streak. That says at least *something*, even though they were winnable games, even for a poor team.

I don't know the details of history, but it wouldn't shock me to see a Sun Belt 7-5/6-6 team that at some point went to a bowl that was just as bad.

Best part is...CMU likely looks at their bowl as a real step in the right direction. Enos probably gets another extension.

A few years ago North Texas went to a bowl with a 5-6 record in 2001 because they won the Sun Belt with a 5-1 record, which included a victory over co-champion Middle Tennessee State. Ironically MTSU got screwed over this year. They had 8 wins, including over ACC Coastal champ GaTech and beat divisional rival WKU (who had one less win) who got into the Pizza bowl.

Pitt's bowl team that got swampped by Utah was the worse BCS bowl team (Hawaii was in the neighborhood though)

They might be the worst bowl team ever, but they are going to a bowl game. We get to sit home and watch them.

Add the bigger fact that its another 3 weeks of practice to help develop the younger guys and this gives them another leg up on us going into next year.

Add the EVEN BIGGER fact that though their coach sucks b@lls, at least they have a coach in place that can be working with his players, recruiting new players and things are just sitting stagnantly while our AD sits on her thumbs and talks about how attractive the WMU job is and how badly everyone wants it.


Why is it that all these other schools have already hired coaches and we apparently havent even figured out if we need a search committee and havent made a lick of progress? I'm sure there is plenty going on behind the scenes that we arent hearing about, but who cares, we are going to get some guy that none of us have ever heard of to take over a program that isnt in a position to win like the university thinks they should be and we will be doing this all again in a few years.

Look at the positive side. Perhaps it's because our candidates are involved in bowl preparations now, and want to finish the season with their teams before any news about moving on comes out.

However, I doubt that would mean that it is a current HC. An HC at a current bowl team isnt leaving that team to come to WMU. And, if its a coordinator of one of those teams, wouldn't they just go ahead and leave for the new job?

Heck, most head coaches leaving bowl eligible teams just go and do it and dont coach their team in the bowl game. Why would a coordinator?

I must say, I was in Detroit this weekend visiting family, and the only thing worse that the end of the Lions game (still stunned) was learning that cmu was going to the Pizza Bowl. We beat them, Sparty humiliated them, and they're going bowling... I simply don't understand it. Yeah, they're 6-6... and I know the Motor City Bowl folks want a nice showing of local fans at Ford Field, but do they really think more than 5k cmu fans will show up for that game? They couldn't fill kelly-shorts for Sparty (did you see those empty seats)? I guarantee you this will be the worst bowl game in the history of the Motor City Bowl... a team that sneaked in with barely a fan base unless it's Western Weekend in mt. misery. Yes I'm hating... and I'm venting. But I also love my city, and I don't want to see it embarrassed by an empty Ford Field on the day after Christmas... We showed how well we'll travel, and I've never had so much fun at Ford Field as I had that last year at our bowl game. No way central replicates that. Meanwhile, WKU fans travel quite well, at least for basketball... So if you see a lot of red in the stands, don't be fooled... they're likely (original) Hilltopper fans. So, with a hardy hats off to the Hilltoppers of old (Western's original nickname for you youngsters out there) and to the pride of Bowling Green Kentucky...

The CMU contingent won't be anywhere near the LeFevour bowls, but I think they'll still have a decent crowd on hand. There's a lot of their alumni around here, and it's a nice "To Do" during the holiday break. If we just took care of business against Buffalo and EMU and squeaked into the LCB with a mediocre 6-6 record, I'd likely go downtown to see it. (Which begs the question, would LCB have chosen 6-6 WMU or 6-6 CMU in that scenario? To be honest, given CMU's longer history with the bowl, I think we would've been left in the cold).

Still, having said all that, it's a bit underwhelming for the bowl in general given there were several other stronger MAC teams with stronger records playing in the post-season.

They may be an awful bowl team, but they are a fellow MAC school so I will be cheering for them (and all MAC schools in bowl games) this bowl season.

Hey Moe!!

I'm very pro MAC... I want all our teams to win, and I think the spreads are a bit off... the MAC contingent could be very impressive this bowl season (even though if we are successful and get 4 or 5 wins, the sports talking heads will still see the MAC as a "fluke" underdog conference)...

Having said all that, I still despise that school up north... And I still say, based on the poor showing of fans for the Sparty game, I just don't think the cmu contingent of fans will rock Ford Field like we did. I'll watch the game on t-v, and I won't openly cheer for the Toppers (even though they have that cool mascot blob-thingy)... but you'll never EVER catch me cheering for cmu, unless they make it to the Final Four and beat Duke or something... then I'll cheer (a little).

Screw that! I will never cheer for CMU in ANYTHING, not even when they played UofM a few years ago. That's saying something because I always cheer for the Broncos first, then whoever is playing UofM, but I couldn't bring myself to do it that week.
