Wonder if the QB's future will look like.

That's what I immediately thought of too. He'd look good in Brown & Gold. I don't really get into recruiting much, but from everything I've read he sounds like a solid prospect. Hope the new coaching staff at least reaches out to him.

Thing is we don't HAVE a staff now. I don't know what the rules are exactly but I could see other schools already making contact with the kid.

Does he have to publicly rescind his verbal for other teams to be allowed to talk to him? Sorry, I really have no idea about recruiting rules. Like I said, it's not something I normally pay attention to.

RE: Bielema to Arkansas
Cubit's assistants are still under contract-getting paid and should be conducting business including recruiting.

Some coaches-staffs will stop going after a kid when he verbals. Others don't. There's no "rule" on it.

That's what the big stink was in Big Ten last winter when Urban Meyer went after (and got) kids who had already committed to MSU, others. Also Joe Tiller's "snake oil salesman" comment when Rodriguez did similar upon arriving in Ann Arbor.

Nothing's final until LOI signed.

Thanks Hoople. Wasn't sure if there was some sort of written rule or "gentleman's agreement" in place for things like that.

RE: Bielema to Arkansas
Arkansas: Bret Bielema's agreement at Arkansas is 6 years at $3.2 million per. Buyout (if they want to get rid of him) begins at $12.8 million and steps down to $3.2 million over time. If he wants to leave, he would owe them $3 million initially...stepping down to $500,000 in the last year. Arkansas is also effectively making the $1 million buyout payment to Wisconsin called for in Bielema's agreement with Wisconsin

Anyone see (or maybe I missed it being mentioned in this thread) that Barry Alvarez is contemplating coaching the Rose Bowl!? I think he's pretty pissed at Beilema's leaving without a heads up... and before the bowl game... I would love to see Barry back on the sidelines.

He is going to coach it sounds like... He doesn't want to have to recruit so he will get his fix and go back to looking for a coach.

RE: Bielema to Arkansas
Is that move insightful to why Beilema would leave? Would you want to work for an AD who feels like he can step in and coach the team in a pinch? That attitude must have permeated throughout their relationship.

And/or he decided that a 700k increase and the chance to compete in the SEC was too good to pass up. I'm sure he has a boatload of incentives in his contract too.

Yep. Knew that they would be looking for a HC, and sent them a letter in early Sept. expressing interest in the job. Just saw the report on My Yahoo.

Barry Switzer quote on Bielema via football scoop...

"The first thing I heard today was that he grew up on a pig farm. That's quite a start in my book. And my last memory was watching him hang 70 on Nebraska. Just those two facts are enough. Then, I hear that he's out of the Hayden Fry-Bill Snyder-Barry Alvarez coaching tree. Oh, that's enough for me to like a lot. Then, I hear he's got a 27-year-old wife. Okay, we can stop. I like him."
