hear the verbal lambasting of UAB Football by a couple of announcers on 97.3 FM last night? On my way home from the basketball game, around 9:25 for about 10 minutes, not sure if it was the "Midnight Meltdown" crew or the "turder inserter" cast, didn't recognize the voices right off, but they read UAB Football the "Riot Act" last night, one of them is quoted as saying that UAB Football team is "crap", and that they should either drop football or move to a lower conference, like the Southern Conference, made reference to a number of schools that have obscure football programs like Georgetown and Butler, that UAB does not deserve a 30,000 seat football stadium, that they should downsize the idea of an oncampus stadium to match the parameters of Samford or Birmingham-Southern , between 4,000 - 7,500 if any. The one that really burned my biscuits was when one of them said that UAB is a "medical and research school" and should focus on that instead of sports, especially football. And of course, they defended the board of "mustys" and their decision to not entertain an OCS for UAB Football, they went on and on about not being able to fill up "Lesion" Field, that it was inexcusable the size of the crowd for the Memphis rivalry game, it was pure venom being spewed. One of them actually said that he didn't want to hear from any UAB fan about that football team last night, in reference to justifying the existence of the program itself.

I hope they put the podcast up so you can hear what was said verbatim, I'm surprised that no one caught wind of this yet...But somewhere, "Fess" is smiling after this...It was an outright verbal assault!

Who gives a damn, to hell with em'. We'll get there eventually. Saturday sucked, but I have faith that this coaching staff will get us where we need to be.

First of all those dudes know nothing about sports. The whole show is a joke. I pay any attention what ANY of those guys have to say.

I knew Birmingham talk radio was a joke last year when I hear Jim Dunnaway say that he would much rather have Barrett Trotter running the Auburn offense than Denard Robinson.

If you voluntarily listen to stupid people rant on the radio, you kinda get what you deserve, no?

Good point! It was by happenstance that I heard the radio "blitzkrieg" last night, were it not for the brevity in which it was conveyed, I would have pretty much dismissed it as nonsense, which on its' face, it is. But the tone in which it was uttered was just too hard to overlook, in my eyes. Apparently, it just doesn't soak into their thick heads that when a football team is losing, fans are going to stop showing up for the most part and gear up for next year, that's the way it is just about everywhere, & no amount of posturing and steamcleaning and sandblasting is going to justify having to play in Legion Field, if it's "good enough" for UAB, why in the **** did the "Hatfields and McCoys" bail on it? when they did?! And haven't played in it since. Good riddance, I say. But suggesting a 7,000 seat football stadium for UAB is just downright insulting.

It was me. I'm not going to hide behind it like everyone else does. A lot of what everyone is saying is selective listening. Yes, I brought up programs like Butler and Georgetown (who by the way, have pretty solid basketball programs). I also NEVER said UAB was just a "medical and research" school and should only stick to that. I said UAB "has a great medical school, is the largest employer in the state, etc. for a reason" to show that the school itself is not a joke. I also said the athletic program as a whole should get more support, but unless football picks up, the support should go where UAB thrives, and that is not football. Other teams are doing what they need to do. Men's soccer made the tournament this year, baseball won the conference last year, golf made the NCAA championships last year, and so on...

I also didn't defend the BoT, and never have. I also didn't say "don't call in", I WANTED people to call in and voice their opinion. I think another co-host said he didn't want to hear complaining of a new stadium when the attendance for the Memphis game (which is supposed to be a rivalry) was poor. I even see posts on here complaining about how bad it was, but yet we're not allowed to point out the obvious? I want to know why UAB fans, on the year when it probably mattered most, didn't show up. Filling up Legion Field is not a realistic expectation, but I would expect more than 10,000 fans to show up for a rivalry game to support the future of this program.

I want every one of you to call in next Tuesday, 9 pm, so we can have a discussion about it.

This guy is so desperate for listeners he makes attacks on the radio and then goes to the message boards begging for callers. But of course we have our own who fall for it hook line and sinker.

When I take someone to a game who isn't a fan of UAB, it's not the team that makes them not want to come back, it's the stadium. Also, just think, there are people who don't like the idea of the new Barons stadium because they think "downtown is scary." That's hogwash, but any person who wouldn't go there will NEVER go to Legion Field. The product on the field has to be much better than it would be to produce the same crowd if we had a normal stadium rather than a tomb.

Any time I hear something like this I remember that Houston had that no win season years back and look where they are now as a team. We live in a state where people only know how to cheer for winners. There is a real dearth in team loyalty down here in a lot of ways. It's the reason most Alabama and Auburn fans are classically fans of basketball teams like North Carolina and Kentucky over their home team. They can't bear to root for a team that's not the best around.

I want UAB to be a great football team, but I also recognize the ridiculous roadblocks of the last decade. We're going to get better.
