UL President Ramsey just on 790 am local
Our president was just on for 15 minutes or so on 790 sports. Here is what I got out of it....and I've provided the link to the podcast section where it should be available to listen to later today sometime.

1. Did not deny Rutgers leaving......I know we haven't heard the same board of regents meeting announced like we've already seen Maryland have, but if Rutgers was not legit news he would have denied it.

2. With the western football only schools, was asked about the report they were talking again with MWC.....he replied that SDst president said they were still staying, but then he followed that up with saying that being football only schools it has always been a bit unstable (paraphrasing) So to me that doesn't sound good

3. For UL, didn't hear anything from him that sounded like something was going to break soon. Didn't think we would not get in to ACC do to problems with academics, and strongly denied that as an issue....still just comes down to tv markets.

ACC cant ignore you anymore because of academics. They are desperate now and things have changed and cant afford to refuse schools just because of that.

Point 3 was my take...the academic issue was not a disqualifier.

Also it seems that GTS feels that UofL might have the edge on the ACC.

One other "rumor"...the B1G might not be done & the ACC might have some other issues with both the B1G & maybe the Big XII/SEC.

Just myself...would not be surprised if the ACC took more than 1 school.

I just don't see it playing out like that. My thought is:

-Maryland & Rutgers this week to B1G

-Maryland takes a few months to negotiate down the 50 mil fee.....FSU and Clemson watch this very carefully with their legal council

-ACC sits tight for a bit, reviewing all of us, and trying to wait out FSU specifically after the Maryland fee is negotiated out. They don't want to take UConn and piss off football schools. They don't want to take us just yet if tv guys are controlling it and are still not sold on us.

-B12, who knows where they really stand at the moment. They want FSU obviously, but will have to wait out the Maryland negotiation period first.

Seriously? I simply do not understand when expansion/realignment happens a lot of folks seem to take "the world is ending" thought process on certain conferences.

This whole 4 superconference stuff is mostly media driven. The Big 12 is making great money and is part of the G-5. The ACC has 13 teams, even if they lost 5 additional teams they would still be a viable conference because schools like UL, UC, USF, UCF, and UConn are going to be available.

Ingram Smith ‏@IngramSmith

Sounds as though ACC is heavily leaning towards selecting UCONN as 14th team - Ga Tech, FSU & Clemson have all voiced their objections

NEW "CONFERENCE" WORLD ORDER CONTINUES ...

I find the most interesting point to be #3. I think as fans most of us look at teams filling spot based on the teams on field performance, however conference commissioners still make choices based on markets.

You're not going to hear about a board of regents meeting (actually a Board of Governors and a Board of Trustees in Rutgers' case--yes we have two) for Rutgers because they gave Pernetti the authority to make conference affiliation decisions on their behalf:

They can make 16 team super conferences if they want. They have already given everyone championship bowl access. They wanna make it harder for them to go undefeated than good for them.

I'm unable to listen to this right now, but did Ramsey actually say that he didn't think Louisville would get into the ACC? If he actually said that publicly, then that tells me that UConn to the ACC is all but a done deal. There's no way that he would be commenting at all on the ACC (or even giving an interview about conference realignment overall) if Louisville was in discussions with them and/or thought the school had a real chance.

There is a double negative in there.

Frank, I think you're reading his post incorrectly. He's saying UofL won't be left out simply due to academics.

It may be more "blog" and message board driven.

Gotcha. You're right - I did a speed read right through that double negative.

And if that's the case then Memphis might get a call too once more teams are taken. Come on Big 12, make that next big move!

The Big 12 can pretty much pick and choose whoever isn't in the Pac 12, Big 10, or SEC at this point. Why would they go after Memphis over any current Big East, ACC, or MWC team right now?

I was talking about the ACC. But the Big 12 has to raid them first to make that happen. If ACC loses enough teams to Big 10 and Big 12 or even SEC, then they almost have no choice by default to add Memphis.

Some fore shadowing, we all know how important scoccer is in the ACC. Last week, Louisville announced last week that we are building the largest seating capacity scoccer stadium in the NCAA in the spring of 2013. I wonder, if this was planned in advance of this ACC stuff?

How could we have missed the soccer clue?
