The man who secured Mike Aresco, UC President resigned today
We hope it isn't a serious illness.

Williams told me today he spent much of the summer in NYC working on Big East stuff

Just talked to Greg Williams. Wouldn't give more detail. Loves UC, he says. Entirely his decision. Asked 10-15x then he got tired of that.

Maybe he thought his job was done and wants to go on a high note. Interestingly UC is showing that it probably is one of the top two or so institutions in the Big East, both from an athletic department sense, but also top school academically due to all the hard work and vision over the past 15 years. All of the work that President Williams has done ensures that.
Along with Louisville UC has the best brand and most success in basketball. Its football run is remarkable also. I'm sure President Williams guidance will still be felt. I feel much more comfortable watching schools step up and seize a leadership role.
In the Pac 12 you have Stanford, USC, UCLA and Oregon running things. In the Big 12, Texas and Oklahoma. In the ACC Duke and UNC.
In the Big East it looks like Louisville and UC are the face of the Big East.

When he took over the search for the new commish a reporter asked him about the Big East, the new TV deal, and asked him
if he was working on that, his response was "is there anything else".

I think those two are the new flag bearers but you can't forget UConn. I hate UConn but they are a big name who plays both sports.

The real question is what is his new job? And was he fired or did he have a better offer?

I think Santa Ono would make a good president. He is the current interim, and absolutely loves UC. As long as the University doesn't hire another Nancy Zimpher. She did good for school, but was strongly disliked by a lot of the students for her having a hand in rising tuition, and the Huggins deal. I believe the trustees will make a great hire, and take UC to another level!

The University of Cincinnati and the Big East Conference just lost a great leader of strong character and drive. This sucks. Mr.P.3242

While this is only one component, I believe Rutgers is the only member of the NBE to be in the AAU. By default I would place them as the top academic school, with Notre Dame, UConn, and Goergetown all slotted somewhere between 2-4.

RE: The man who secured Mike Aresco, UC President resigned today
i cant argue with that list. rutgers is by a lot the largest research university in the big east. Rutgers has over 30,000 undergraduatrs, while uconn around 16,000, and gtown and notre dame under 10000. TheSe schools ND, Uconn gtown are a lot smaller and have higher selectivity and stronger student bodiee than rutgers which us news prefers. Going forward, we need rutgers to cintinue its success across all sports, not just football. Having a dominant team is good for the confetence. I'd say Notre Dame and Georgetown are better than Rutgers. I think UConn and Rutgers are roughly the same in terms of undergraduate education. Overall because of a larger research budget and the AAU accreditation we edge them out. Notre Dame, Georgetown, Rutgers, UConn, Cincy, Navy and SMU are the clear academic heavies going forward. Louisville, UCF and USF are making huge pushes to join that crew.

SDSU is 31,303 as of 2011, and while we are not a VHRU, we still are a Research University.

I agree with this. No disrespect to Rutgers, but I would put ND and Georgetown ahead of it. Rutgers would be a solid 3rd with Cincy, Navy, SMU, and UConn all being about the same for 4th

Kind of makes you wonder if he just got tired of athletics running the show at universities now.

Honestly it's hard to compare the Private/CYOs with Rutgers/Uconn and then again the city schools as they all have different missions. On the private site, I know that ND, G'town and Villanova are all top flight, and St John's/Seton Hall are a notch below them. Not sure where Marquette, DePaul and SMU fit in.
For the public schools, Rutgers and UConn are both tier 2 and Temple is right behind them. Louisville, Cincinnati and USF are tier 3.
For the departing schools, Pitt fit in with Rutgers and UConn, and I think Syracuse was in that general area too, though for some media studies Syracuse was one of the best schools in the country. West Virginia was tier 3.

Well after today we went from #56 in research conducted to #22 because the medical schools and health sciences university, UMDNJ has been integrated back into Rutgers. Our US News and World Report Undergrad rankings will only see a modest rise from this. Our world rankings on the other hand will shoot up massively.
