I'm sure the FB players know what this could mean. It is now up to the coaching staff to focus the guys attention to the field. That is the surest way to make what they do mean something. Real or imagined, the current administrative situation will make the "mental" tests they have been putting the players thru pay dividends here. At first I thought the timing was a negative for the guys, but now I think it was best at this juncture. The guys can go thru the grief phases, if necessary, and be prepared for Troy. Us against the world(BOT), fellas. Lets kick some a$$.

I wonder if McGee already caught wind of this and that was part of the "threats" he spoke to the team about?

We are starting to become optimistic about our football team. Every time that happens, the UAB family gets a major setback.

Who has lost their grip? I think the comments so far have been pretty tame and normal reactions for this crowd. You know there is most likely much more to the story than her just retiring. I think you just get off on making comments like you are somehow much more level headed and enlightened than other people.
This is a pretty big topic of discussion. People can vent and say whatever they want without losing their grip. Again, I don't see where anyone has. Nobody is slitting their wrists over it. But the comments made are all in the realm of reality considering past events.

New Prez needs to be a UAB undergrad... We are old enough for it.

It's the only way to be sure.

Don't pay him any attention Uncle Blazer. His retirement home nurse probably denied him his dessert again. Dr. G. has stedfastly supported UAB athletics, and has used discretionary funds to do it. We members here, and this board exists because of UAB athletics. Some folks can't make the connection that this is a big loss for UAB athletics.

I can't form an honest opinion on this until I get more info on the reasons for herstepping down the first week of fall classes.

I will say that she seemed tired in the video BlazerTV posted a few weeks ago. Ten years is the longest tenure of any UAB president, which is a significant portion of the history of the university.

Whoever takes the job will have their work cut out for them... no one at that level of academia could willfully squander the potential of the UAB undergraduate campus or athletics program.

What about Eli Capiluto returning to UAB?

I dislike Garrison personally, but she did many fine things here and is a serious loss.

I think I would make a fine president of UAB.

She is one of the longest serving presidents ever. There is no indication that it is anything more than a retirement. This thread does not represent that.

RE: UAB President Carol Garrison Steps Down as UAB President
I think Dr. Garrison wanted to realize at least the announcement of an oncampus stadium. Seeing that it isn't an option in the near future, she may have decided to move on. May have been forced to move on. Who knows. I think it would be interesting to interview Dr. Garrison about several of these BOT torpedoes over the last several years once she is no longer active president. Would be nice to hear her speak out and get the truth out there about Jimbo Fisher, the stadium fiasco, etc.

Whatever the case, I consider Dr. Garrison's departure to be a loss for us. No question. I think she was a great president. That's not to say the next president can't be as good or better. But unfortunately, as usual, I'm not sure how much freedom we will have to get the person of our choosing. I will hope for the best.

The next UAB president will certainly have a strong medical and research background... this should be priority #1 as far as I'm concerned. But with that, our next president will hopefully bring a strong understanding of the importance of a vibrant and well-rounded undergraduate and graduate program, as well as the realization of the value placed on college football by our region.

I think Dr. Garrison has more valuable accomplishments to hang her hat on in her career at UAB than a football stadium.

The North Pavilion, Hazelrig Salter, the Campus Green (including encompassing buildings), record enrollment, and increased academic rankings come to mind.

As for athletics, she stuck around to see that Haase, McGee, and Mackin got their contracts approved. She left the athletic dept in good hands for at least the next 3-5 years.
