The JC Press article stated:

"Eventually, the school intends to create indoor courts."

I wonder what those big green rectangles in the Dome are? I mean the ones that are located north/south of the basketball court . . . the ones with the white lines and nets.

RE: Parking Garage
Five pages on a parking garage seemingly overnight.

Can you imagine if there was that kind of response to, I don't know, ETSU athletics on the ETSU athletics board? Can you imagine where the Bucs would be then?

However, I did see where someone posted that the soccer schedule has been released. And this discussion on the popularity of tennis is, of course, riveting.

5 pages overnight? the thread was started on 11/16/11. People made fun it for a few days and it died until the newspaper article brought it back to peoples attention. There have been 8 responses to this thread since 11/20/11 including yours and mine. Not really a riveting topic.

RE: Parking Garage
My mistake, Rod. Didn't see this thread up at the top until now. Thanks for the correction.

Still, five pages on a parking garage, even over that amount of time!

This reminds me of when closing the Picadilly cafeteria drew more response to the Letters to the Editor page of the JC Press than the Bucs dropping football.

And then theposterformerlyknownasthedoctorwhothenreallywasknownasthedoctorbutIguessafteronetoomanymalpracticesuitsorsomethingyouchangeyourname

came on here DEFENDING the food at the Picadilly!

Sheesh!

Or now am I going to be called a liar because theposterformerlyknownasthedoctorwhonowisknownasthetenniscourtshill will point out that in fact he did not come on HERE defending the Picadilly, but instead he came on soconhoops.com defending the Picadilly, and then will post some sort of link to God Knows What expecting us to leaf through 30 pages of crap to defend a point that simply isn't there?

I somehow missed the jc press article, so this may be old news. But, Dave said that the tennis facility will be where the "red barn" is now. I drove by today and there are definitely building materials there.

Also, he said that the parking lots for bball would not be available next season due to the garage construction. There will be shuttles to the Dome or perhaps alternate parking. I would guess that means the lots near the soccer stadium.

If all they're building is more outdoor courts, then that news shouldn't surprise anyone. That might take, what, three months? Level the ground, pour in the foundation, lay and paint the surface, put in the nets, raise perimeter fencing, toss in some bleachers, boom, done.

It'd be a rather fitting tribute to his tenure if that's what the Dave Mullins Tennis Center was to become.

A 200-space parking lot is now located where the parking garage will go. Part of the project will involve relocating the school’s tennis court from near Warf-Pickel Hall to out near Summers-Taylor Stadium, the school’s soccer field. The total cost of both projects is now $26 million.

They dropped football because its cost was not going to be "put on the backs of students". With an 80% subsidized athletic budget that has almost doubled these
last nine years along with these kind of student funded projects, how did that work out?

RE: Parking Garage
Collins said the increase in cost could be attributed to many things. One thing he suggested was the upward trend in the economy and the ability of contractors to charge more for construction. Collins said for the past few years the school has received good deals on construction projects.

Collins said the school is working with Rentenbach to do what is called value engineering, which will allow for a reduction in costs that could then be applied to things like redoing a road that will be affected by the construction. Value engineering would be using different glass, having only one sign instead of two and reducing the food service area planned for the garage.

I see the ETSU Spin Machine is already gearing up for this.

"Over budget" . . . "Behind schedule" . . . Are they talking about the parking garage or the baseball stadium?

Ok, you have $23 Million to spend....Do you?

a) Build a new basketball arena
b) Start a football team
c) Build a parking garage

No fair . . . you listed them in order of importance. My heart says football. But, basketball probably would have the best shot (no pun intended) at recouping the $23m in revenue befor the other two. Though not being a "parking expert," I may be wrong all together.

The answer is C. There isn't $23 million to spend as folks see fit.

Let me clairfy, the student referendum that resulted in $23 million was whether or not they were willing to pay an increased parking fee in return for the construction of a student parking garage.

It seems to me that the folks at ETSU "find" money whenever they want it and blame the students when they don't want to find it.

Yes a few years ago the "financially strapped" school suddenly found money to start from scratch an NCAA division 1 soccer program. No fund raising needed. No asking for money. No student vote on whether they wanted it. No problems identified in finding the money. Coaches salaries all paid. Scholarships paid for. Recruiting paid for. Travel and hotels paid for. Plenty of money "found" for that. Alumni and supporters still on the outside looking in wondering what in the world has been happening with our school. I still am wondering.
