It won't surprise me if they did. They are bunch of small time thinkers full of envy in everything we do. It won't be long before we beat them on the ice as well. There are a ton of hockey talent in New England and nearby Canada.
There has been no thaw in the New England "Cold War".
If the story is true, BC has shown itself to be the most petty school on the North American continent.
Except the story is likely not true. The "source" on the Boneyard made a joke saying that the vote was 8-1 with BC holding the lone "no" vote. He then said that "he had just made that up." The fact is that the vote has not been released (and there are currently 10 HE votes, not 9).
I doubt BC voted against Uconn. Unlike football, BC plays a dozen or so local schools at the highest levels of college hockey. Having one more school join the fray matters little to BC in the whole scheme of things. Besides, HE is comprised of major NE schools and it makes sense for Uconn to join.
About the "BC on suicide watch" comment; really?? BC is the most dominant college hockey program in the country. 5 National Championships - 4 in the last decade and 3 in the last 5 years. 7 Frozen 4's in the past 10 years. 8 HE Titles in the past 10 years. The fact is that no school other than Michigan's run in the early 1960's even approaches that level of dominance.
Will Uconn beat BC in any given game? Sure. Eventually. A few times. Thats the nature of HE. (Heck, even the BC Men's BB team has beaten the mighty Uconn Men's BB team a few times!) However, if Uconn wants to surpass BC as a Program, they will first have to surpass teams like BU, Minnesota, Michigan, Denver, UNH, Maine, etc. as we have left them all in our wake.
BTW, Uconn won't just be competing with BC for talent, it will be competing with all the other NE hockey powers as well. BC has the best coach in the game and our program is pretty much the envy of college hockey. Pretty easy sell to the best hockey talent. (Jerry's message to hockey recruits is pretty simple: "Come to BC and you will get a degree from a Top 30 academic institution AND at least one National Championship ring. A promise he has been pretty much able to keep over the past decade.)
Will BC fans be mad about HE expansion. Probably. However, that anger has more to do with the fact that additional HE opponents means that there will likely be fewer games against BU - a team we REALLY care about.
Oh, and Husky, re: the 3 BC fans, you might want to check the attendance figures for 2011-12. You will find that BC finished 5th in the country for attendance - and lead HE by a country mile. We shall see how Uconn does playing Friday night games in downtown Hartford.
