Hockey East to Invite UCONN
Well, it is not official yet but this article says it is pretty much done:

http://themackreport.com/sources-hockey-...ept-uconn/

UCONN and ND will be Hockey East's new members if true.

Is there anything that UConn can't do?

It will take a while to get up to speed in hockey and to finalize a permanent stadium situation, but it will happen.

No champagne corks are popping in Chestnut Hill.

Did BC really cast the lone opposing vote, as someone said on the Boneyard?

It won't surprise me if they did. They are bunch of small time thinkers full of envy in everything we do. It won't be long before we beat them on the ice as well. There are a ton of hockey talent in New England and nearby Canada.

There has been no thaw in the New England "Cold War".

If the story is true, BC has shown itself to be the most petty school on the North American continent.

No. That poster was joking. Did BC oppose UConn's inclusion, I'm not sure...but that poster was joking.

It would be sweet to beat them at the one thing they're good at.

There has been no thaw in the New England "Cold War".

If the story is true, BC has shown itself to be the most petty school on the North American continent.

Except the story is likely not true. The "source" on the Boneyard made a joke saying that the vote was 8-1 with BC holding the lone "no" vote. He then said that "he had just made that up." The fact is that the vote has not been released (and there are currently 10 HE votes, not 9).

I doubt BC voted against Uconn. Unlike football, BC plays a dozen or so local schools at the highest levels of college hockey. Having one more school join the fray matters little to BC in the whole scheme of things. Besides, HE is comprised of major NE schools and it makes sense for Uconn to join.

About the "BC on suicide watch" comment; really?? BC is the most dominant college hockey program in the country. 5 National Championships - 4 in the last decade and 3 in the last 5 years. 7 Frozen 4's in the past 10 years. 8 HE Titles in the past 10 years. The fact is that no school other than Michigan's run in the early 1960's even approaches that level of dominance.

Will Uconn beat BC in any given game? Sure. Eventually. A few times. Thats the nature of HE. (Heck, even the BC Men's BB team has beaten the mighty Uconn Men's BB team a few times!) However, if Uconn wants to surpass BC as a Program, they will first have to surpass teams like BU, Minnesota, Michigan, Denver, UNH, Maine, etc. as we have left them all in our wake.

BTW, Uconn won't just be competing with BC for talent, it will be competing with all the other NE hockey powers as well. BC has the best coach in the game and our program is pretty much the envy of college hockey. Pretty easy sell to the best hockey talent. (Jerry's message to hockey recruits is pretty simple: "Come to BC and you will get a degree from a Top 30 academic institution AND at least one National Championship ring. A promise he has been pretty much able to keep over the past decade.)

Will BC fans be mad about HE expansion. Probably. However, that anger has more to do with the fact that additional HE opponents means that there will likely be fewer games against BU - a team we REALLY care about.

Oh, and Husky, re: the 3 BC fans, you might want to check the attendance figures for 2011-12. You will find that BC finished 5th in the country for attendance - and lead HE by a country mile. We shall see how Uconn does playing Friday night games in downtown Hartford.

Eagle78-

I have a quick question regarding the Hockey East. Do you know what's happened to New Hampshire hockey? They used to be really good but fell off a cliff last year. Seems like with heir resources, they could be consistently good every year. Was last year a fluke, or a harbinger of things to come?

Hey no matter how bad BCU is at other sports, you guys can always have hockey. Now you have to deal with us in hockey too and you know it will just be matter of time before we take you guys down.

RE: Hockey East to Invite UCONN
UCONN to Hockey East now official. UCONN to play non-conference games on campus and Hockey East games at XL Center. XL Center is former home of Hartford Whalers of NHL.

http://www.courant.com/sports/college/bl...5943.story

Quote:UConn joins an elite group of seven other schools that compete on the national level as a member of the BCS Conference in football and play college basketball and college hockey in a national elite conference. Those other schools with their future conference hockey affiliation are: Boston College (Hockey East), Michigan (Big Ten), Michigan State (Big Ten), Minnesota (Big Ten), Notre Dame (Hockey East), Ohio State (Big Ten) and Wisconsin (Big Ten).

I wish we would have either expanded the on-campus stadium or built an entirely new one. The state will support a winner either way, but supporting a loser will be tough at the XL center.

We have to win early. I hope we will.

We can now play top level FB (BCS bowl), BB (nc's), baseball (super regional 2011), soccer (nc's), and hockey (HE).

We don't always win, but we have solid programs in place to compete with anyone.

Wow, let's not go that far. In the last decade? Certainly. Overall? No.

BU and BC are both equal historically. Michigan is still the best college hockey program, despite not doing much since the late 90's and choking in the Frozen Four.

As I said in my original statement, no team other than Michigan in the early 60's has been this dominant. I never said that BC was the most successful program in the entire history of college hockey. I said that their current run is the most successful in the history of college hockey other than Michigan a half century ago. Name me another program other than Michigan that has had a better 10 year run. I don't think you can.
