North: BC, UConn, RU, WVU, Pitt, Cuse, UL, UC
South: Maryland, NC State, WF, UNC, Va Tech, Duke, UVA, Miami

Ga Tech, Clemson, FSU to the Big 12 with maybe ND. Looked like a possibility at one point. Maybe still is depending on what happens although I don't see WVU ever coming back. I think it was a match made in Heaven but the elites in Chapel Hill would never lower their academic standards. From a football standpoint, the ACC needed WVU but failed to recognize it. WVU may never pan out in the Big 12 so we will see. I can smoke the pipe for the time being.

Why would you want UC and UL in that scenario, they don't fit the geography.

We're talking about a dream Atlantic conference, which has nothing to do with the New Big East or its geography. Cincinnati and Louisville aren't anywhere near the Eastern seaboard so I fail to see the point of having them.

And it sure as hell has nothing to do with marshall in any scenario.

RE: Big East to rebrand?
The Big East didn't disappear... there were still 13 members, before the expansion this winter...

Boise State, San Diego State, Houston, Southern Methodist, Central Florida, Navy, Memphis, and Temple (former member returned) all made the decision to JOIN the BIG EAST. The conference shouldn't change its name for them, PERIOD!

The United States of America didn't change its name as it added states and grew towards the Pacific, and neither should the Big East.

RE: Big East to rebrand?
And the Big 10 and Big 12 should keep there names because they have 12 and 10 schools respectively.

Just so we are aware of the logic of these conferences use in terms of naming things. After all, why wouldn't the East encompass Boise and San Diego when we are talking about college conference nomenclature.

RE: Big East to rebrand?
Urban Big East Conference
Metropolitan Big East Conference
Metropolis Big East Conference
National Big East Conference

or switch them around in order,

Big East Urban Conference
Big East Metropolitan Conference
Big East Metropolis Conference
Big East National Conference

most Houston fans are happy to be associated with the Big East. we wouldn't want to lose the tradition and good will built up with that name by many other fine univsersities. but it doesn't have to be an all or nothing thing. keep the Big East but add something to recognize the new western members. why not? we DO add value to the league. the nBE may not be better than previous configurations of the conference, but it will certainlly be better than the new members not been added.

I think its stupid to change the name of the Big East if thats the case, but if they did it I would go with Big America Conference....And I want out of it.

I can only imagine the puns going into this thread. Might as well start.

1. God Bless America Conference
2. Be All That You Can Be Conference
3. Conservatives vs Liberals conference
4. The Proud, the Few... and Far Between

Or quite simply: The Giant Cluster---- Conference.

But really, they need to change it up. It just isn't the Big East anymore. Without Cuse, BC, Miami, Pitt, the conference is as good as dead. Bury it and start anew, whatever it is.

[/quote

I vote for #4, ain't much "east" in the east anymore. 04-deal

RE: Big East to rebrand?
Not...gonna...happen....brands are dangerous things to tinker with. If this conference is going in the right direction and they are growing revenues then that brand is going to be just what it is right now.

The caveat would be maybe a partial re-brand for football only...like "Big East National" with "National in very small letters underneath.

I just don't see the brand changing however.

Embrace who we are and the actual identy that we have in common.

The Big Majors-14

Divisions would be Big East and Big West. It isnt regional (beacause we are not). It doesnt oversell. It is who we are. And by saying exactly who we are, it actually makes it seem much more reasonable that we deserve a seat at the table. Because, for the most part, we will represent the best of the rest. We represent the place most likley to contribute a playoff team from outside the so called Big 5.

Still think it would be dumb to dump the Big East name, but I thought this name worth throwing out there.
