This need not be tied to a gay issue... It effect all kids and by trying to tie it to one demographic you're going to politicize it. This is tragic and some penalty for people who push like this needs to be designed.

So if he had done it because kids picked on him for being fat, or foreign that would have somehow been different how?
This is happening to teens everywhere, for all reasons. There is something we are not teaching kids about common decency, somewhere we as a culture are going off the tracks.

show me a bunch of kids who have killed themselves over being bullied due to weight...their may be 1 or 2 over a year
in 2010 6 gay kids killed themselves in 1 month due to bullying...one month
it is a gay issue...brought on by hate spread by the GOP and evangelicals IMHO.

Well your opinion is wrong, I already posted another kid bullied over non gay issues that killed themselves... But they don't matter. No benefit concerts, no tweets from ultra hip stars, no huffpo love...
Heck at one school in NY where a gay teen killed themselves he was the second teen that year to do it.. The first teen got *0* attention from anyone but the local news.
The point is something needs to be done about all of this, not this group or that group...
I should have just kept my mouth shut on this one... It was bad form and I am sorry

1 kid is a sad, sad situation...6 in a month...or 9 in a 1 school district is an epidemic.

UofMemphis' opinion is right. The difference between bullying for being fat or foreign and being gay is the latter is openly encouraged (or at least, acceptance is discouraged) by Christians and a large swath of a major political party. That's the f'king difference.

This is all a bunch of BS. When I grew up we ALL got bullied and all it took was a reason - any reason. We learned to deal with it and then it became our turn to be the bullies, and on and on it went, no one committed suicide because they were fat and got picked on, or were gay, or were Jewish (they got slammed) Today kids are so sheltered, so still in the womb, so protected from anything that might cause them to take a hit to their self esteem, that they grow up not knowing how to handle what 6 year olds used to handle 50 years ago.
Gentlemen, the herd just got a little thinner and what remains is a little stronger.

http://www.bullyingstatistics.org/conten...icide.html
Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.
Since gays are only 2% of the population, and 7% attempt suicide, then even if every gay was bullied to the point of suicidal thoughts, there would still be 2.5x as many non-gays.
Since every gay is not bullied, it's clear the problem is as prevalent among heterosexuals.
Quote:in 2010 6 gay kids killed themselves in 1 month due to bullying...one month
Prove that's the reason, and the only reason, to back up those numbers. Certainly it wasn't for the Rutgers kid. Just the opposite in fact.
Quote:it is a gay issue...brought on by hate spread by the GOP and evangelicals IMHO.
Once again, you'll have to provide some evidence. My bet is you won't, b/c you can't. You'll just continue with your hate, and pretend you're somehow more righteous.

Wait, so are we angry at bullying, or just the type of person that was bullied.
I was bullied in middle school all the time. Got suspended for defending myself in a fight. 'Injustice' is the middle name of 'public schools'.

But gayness goes against the bible and sinners should be publicly ridiculed in order to save their souls. That's why I always tell fat people that Jesus loves them but hates their ugly, sinful fat.
Can I get an amen?

I did a little investigation, and as much as I admire Ron Paul's tenacity and offensive approach to cutting federal departments that are unnecessary, the real issue with our education system is a lack of general oversight by the states and cities that are charged with the safety and freedoms of the students and faculty.
Bullying is a problem that the federal government has no power to address, because it isn't a federal problem. Those schools that can't inhibit in-school bullying should be disciplined with a lack of funding. However, I also did notice that Facebook harbored part of the bullying that was ongoing.
Anyways, where was this young man's parents in all of this?
