wow, interesting stuff between Zach Miller's Dad and Monty... I wonder how much credibility he lost recruiting Chicago suburbs and if he honestly he said he doesnt need to recruit Illinois. This is gonna stir things up a bit.

1) Re: Recruiting Chicago suburbs. Truth be told, the area the Millers are from along with many of the suburbs, are NOT areas from which solid D1 players come from very often.

2) Re: Not needing Illinois. In the heat of the moment, MM may have said something like, "Badges?! We don't need no stinkin' badges!" (Insert Illinois for "badges".)

It seems like MM could have handled this better, as far as how NIU does things. I'm sure he and JC have met and discussed how things like this should be handled in the future.

How many players come out of Glenbard East and play D1 ball?

RE: The not needing Illinois comment. That is petty rancor on the part of the father, regardless what MM actually said. And it is unprofessional for the DC to publish such hearsay.

Shame on you, DC.

I can think of 4.

Zack
His teammate who is at Ill State I believe. A much better player.
Jim Begalski - who when to Colgate, also appeard in SI for pulling a Chris Webber and calling a time out he didn't have and ruining C'gate's chance to end a very very long losing streak.
There was also a kid who went to Colorado I believe when the Rams were good in the early to mid 90's when my nephew was there.

I never understand why people care where the talent comes from...If NIU is good with a bunch of Michigan players, I won't care.

It's a lot like the Illini fans focusing on Chicago....who cares? There are a lot of big cities that churn out talent. Just get it from somewhere.

It's about the pipelines created to the high schools. If/when MM leaves for (MSU) GREENer pastures, some/many/all of those MI pipelines will close up without him at NIU. In-state pipelines would not close up as easily and have a far better chance of remaining open with a new coaching staff.

As I mentioned earlier, I think it's bad form on the father's part and I don't believe MM said anything unprovoked. If anything it was in response to the father probably threatening to ruin MM's reputation among the IL HS coaching fraternity.

This has all the indications of a smear campaign by an embittered parent.

The following quote sounds like a veiled threat.

Quote:Scott said Montgomery’s reputation in his portion of the Chicago suburbs would be ruined for cutting Zach and the NIU coach would not be welcome recruiting at Glenbard East, a high school in Lombard, about 25 miles west of Chicago.

So there... 03-hissyfit :takemyballandgohome:

Yep. Now there was a gunner! If you watch the annual alumni game, he's still firing!

There's an absolutely amazing story about his daughter Grace, who overcame bone cancer in her knee and leg to return to competitive swimming at a high level.

RE: DC: NIU finds 'floor general'
daddy is simply a disgruntled guy who was blinded to his kid's lack of talent and is lashing out by threatening MM and NIU--I sincerely doubt any kids, parents, or coaches are going to be persuaded by this whining father....if anything, Scott Miller's credibility will suffer. If a kid can play at NIU and is offered a schollie and is recruited by this staff the way they have shown they can recruit, crybaby dad's comments will not amount to a hill of beans..

From the same team as Zack and Johnny hill, Lee Edwards went to Wofford and Mike Cappocci just graduated from Northwestern last season and was recruited with Juice Thompson. They have a good program, but nothing like the kids coming from the city schools.

I agree about the dad He is creating the perception that he is a "little league parent" whining about his son not playing more. Some parents are unrealistic about the talent that there children have

With that...having watched him play he is better to go to D 11. Much more his level of competition and will get him more playing time..

Being a repository for "nice players" won't and hasn't fill the convo....
