hiring Kirby Smart! What better decision is there than to get a great defensive coach, negatively impact a team in their division of the SEC, and they already have an OC at the helm....
It's defense that has kept Arkansas from eclipsing UAT and AU these last few years. We'll find out soon how smart they are!

Asking any coach to come in & retain & work with the current staff is asking for trouble.

Even asking McGee to do this wouldn't be wise, IMO.

They are acting like this coming year is their NC year. I beg to differ. LSU & the Gumps will still wax them.

They need to think longer term than just this year.

Here's how Ryan Mallett thinks they could help their situation.

"Former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett, now with the New England Patriots, tweeted his support for Garrick McGee. The former Razorbacks offensive coordinator was hired as the head coach at UAB in December after four years in Fayetteville.
"GM only coach Ark should look at if they wanna win now," Mallett wrote. "I'm talkin about Garrick McGee. He can win at Arkansas."
Mallett made clear he was not referring to Gus Malzahn, the former offensive coordinator at Arkansas, Tulsa and Auburn who took the head coaching job at Arkansas State in December.
"That would be a mistake," Mallett tweeted."

Arkansas stomped a mudhole in API last year.

And, with Texas A&M joining their division, Arkansas needs to ensure the best long-term coaching situation so that they don't become a perennial 5th place program. With Petrino getting no buyout and over $3.5 million to spend on a new coach, Arkansas would be wise to use every penny. As much as I love the Stache, his stock is nowhere near that amount at this point.

Smart is a smart choice for UA and is ready to be a head coach. Hiring him and he could bring assistants he wants and it create a real sh_t storm for a lot of teams not named UAB. I'm worried if McGee goes so will some assistants and we could wind up with a real problem on our hands.

Winning a MNC at a third school in the SEC West would be quite the achievement.

Why settle for an unproven assistant? Make a splash - hire Saban!

Yes, that is true, however from what I have seen Arkansas wants a coach to come in & keep the existing staff in place because this upcoming season is going to be HOLY & ANGELS WILL COME DOWN & GOD WILL BLESS IT & THE PLANETS WILL ALIGN & DOGS & CATS WILL BE JOYFULLY LIVING TOGETHER & AMERICAN IDOL WILL END ONCE AND FOR ALL.

Arkansas' linebacker coach is already the Assistant Head Coach. Why not just alter the title to "Interim" and keep everybody in their present positions?

If they somehow hired Saban, I would be the happiest new Razorback fan in the world. It would be a fairy tale ending for a year that was not nice to UAB football.

Well, why not? The Walton family has more money than anyone not answerable to the Chinese Communist Party. It instantly wipes away all talk of Petrino and wrecks a competing program.

They need to do this.
