I also think the new lighting and sound system will make it a much better gameday experience. All this to go along with Tiger Lane and It can be a Big Time atmosphere. We just need a few wins and we will hover around 50k

I don't that will be overly difficult, as long as Memphis football shows improvement and shows some progress. Memphis fans will be there.

With the $9M stadium improvements and the Big East, Coach Fuente should have plenty of recruiting ammunition.
Memphis has won 5 games the last 3 years. If Coach Fuente can win ~5 games this season, the momentum will start to roll and Memphis will be well on their way to becoming competitive in football again.

I think it is absolutely quintessential that memphis has a good year this year. 2012 could set the tone for the performance they have in the Big East for years to come. I don't think it is likely, but i'm absolutely rooting for memphis to be bowl eligible this year

It's possible but not probable. Memphis finished 2-10 last season but also lost 3 games where we had double digit leads in the 4th Quarter. 5-7 was in our grasps and while this isnt setting the world on fire, it also isnt far from 6-6 and a bowl game.

Pontiac had the Legendary GTO back when and it was Nicknamed the Tiger. How cool would it be to use the GTO name for the stadium as a nickname. "Go Tigers Offense! "

For 2.5 million dollars, it aint going to rival the Godzillatron. It might be around the same size or it may have the same high def screen, but not both. The Godzillatron cost 8 million......in 2006.

Plasma screens were running between $15,000-$20,000 when they first came out. 5 years later you could get the same size for $2,000

As the blog I just posted pointed out, "while $2.5 million doesn't seem like a lot for a video board -- Ole Miss and Mississippi State each paid around $6 million for their enormous ones a few years back -- consider this much like you would an iPad or a HD television: As technology evolves, prices fall."
You can but the exact same flat screen TV today for MUCH less than you could in 2006.

The technology evolves and the prices fall mostly due to demand. The jumbotron industry doesnt have the demand to cause prices to fall by 2/3rds. Our new board will be awesome but to compare it to the Godzillatron is unfair at this time.

consumer electronics and jumbotrons are 2 different industries that have different market forces.

RE: City, University and FedEx to finance upgrades at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium
I don't know about anyone else, but I like jumbotrons, personally. What I don't like is the "grassy field turf" because, well, I prefer to see grass stains on jerseys. Another reason I hate grassy turf: The pellets that are supposed to mimic dirt. I've heard both college and NFL players (mostly NFL players, admittedly) complain about pellets going into their eyes. I mean I know it would probably lower annual maintenance costs on the field surface, but it just doesn't feel right to me to play on something like that. I'll take my natural grass surface, thank you.
As for Memphis, that's great, guys! I've said this before, but it bears repeating: I can't wait to go to Memphis to see my Coogs play you guys at the renovated digs in our new conference. Glad you're joining the Big East with us, and frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Good deal for Memphis fans, and the BE. Upgraded bowl will be good vs SEC in late DEC.

Prices fall when supply increases, not when demand increases.

Speaking of $2.5 Million scoreboards, Nebraska's new $150 Million 16,000 seat Downtown Arena will have the first and only HD 4-sided Scoreboard in the Big Ten,. at a price of $2.5 Million.
Here's some renderings of what their new arena will look like in 2013 (set in downtown Lincoln, as part of a entertainment district that should make games/concerts there a fun place to go before and after games/shows)

Prices fall when supply increases, not when demand increases.
With consumer technology goods, the price falls substantially from the initially high price when there is enough demand to warrant increased production. Once production increases, the per unit supply and labor costs which are very high when you are making only a few units fall drastically when the demand is such that you can mass produce units. Demand will increase prices only when it outstrips supply but that rarely happens in consumer electronics because of the glut of product availability in the market.

This is a good thing. I doubt the special tax district will accumulate the required funds and I fully expect that the University will be paying a bigger amount of that 500,000 guarantee than people are being lead to believe. Still though 7.5 million over 15 years is chump change in the grand scheme of things.
