RE: Jamaal Bass Indicted
Here is a dirty little secret about the state of Ohio. With their ravaged economy, they love to target out of staters for criminal convictions to bring in money to the state. Bass will probably get a 10K bail which he will have to pay 10% of which he will never see again. He will get off on a Misdemeanor plea which he will get court supervision and pay court costs. With lawyer fees he will probably end up out 5K-10K.

Oh and the laws in Ohio are unnecessarily harsh.

There's no reason for Bass to be suspended or punished any further than he already has been by the university. None.

Someone refresh my memory. Were assault charges filed in this instance?

I don't think so. This sets a bad precedent and makes everyone in Toledo look like even bigger sore losers.

I can understand the band members' parents being upset because their kids got hurt, and so I can also understand them wanting to press charges. Imagine having a band geek son/daughter who gets trucked by a football player and sustains a concussion. Any of us would be pissed. But a felony? Please. You would have to prove intent and this was a dumb emotional thing that happened in a split second with no forethought. The felony charge is a joke. And frankly I have to wonder if this would be happening if the player was white. Yeah I said it.

You guys are all frickin' ridiculous. If this were a UT player running over an NIU band member you would be pissed off and want charges pressed. What about the "innocent until proven guilty" saying? You guys are all saying his life is going to be ruined, blah, blah blah, as if he were already found guilty. Why don't you wait and see what the outcome is first?

Midnight, you would feel the same way were it one of your players, especially since Bass already was disciplined, via suspension. Guilty or innocent, shouldn't a suspension have been enough? As for innocence or guilt, we don't expect an innocent verdict in an Ohio courtroom.

There's no reason he should be forced to go through this. It's a joke. He was running onto the field and unexpectedly met by the Toledo band and he did a dumb thing by running into them. But felonious assault? Are you kidding? If the tables were reversed I wouldn't have wanted chargers, and I probably would have found it almost as entertaining as I did this.

There's no way it would be happening if he was white, but at the same time Lagarette Blount straight up jacked a dude in the face and he didn't even get charged.

And he hit a white guy, in Idaho.

Won't comment on this other than to say Julia Bates could murder somebody in front of the staff of the Blade, set fire to the courthouse and drive drunk through the mayor's office in a Jeep and be re-elected in a landslide. She could come out in support of her opponent and be re-elected. She could take a job as her opponent's campaign manager and be re-elected.

Not sure what this is about but its not about re-election. Not enough people in Toledo know about the incident or care about the incident or UT football for it to be on any but the most avid fan's radar. I learned about it when Brad posted the info on our board.

No we wouldn't...In 2010 the Illinois football players ran into our cheerleaders. Ya we bitched and moaned on here for a week but then we moved on with the occasional poster bringing it back up.

And we weren't the ones who brought it up, it was the DA. And I guess the DA where ever it happened wasn't doing their job either. And I bet the Illinois player running into your band member wasn't deliberate like Bass was. I have not seen the Illinois/NIU band memebr incident, is there video of it?

May I suggest that those of us that think this is ridiculous to get a fund together for his defense.

This is not worth a single day in jail.
