Well it has been a whole month! Just weeks after 17-day Hawaii vacation Michelle hits the slopes with daughters on Aspen ski trip

With the economy on its knees, many American families have had to forgo their annual holiday just to make ends meet.

But barely a month after returning from a luxury Christmas break in Hawaii Michelle Obama is on holiday again - this time at the exclusive Colorado ski resort of Aspen.

The First Lady Michelle Obama is spending Presidents' Day weekend in the upmarket resort with her daughters, Sasha and Malia, and was seen hitting the slopes - albeit apprehensively - on Saturday.

The Secret Service have been in town for the past few days looking for safe places for the family to relax.

Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo confirmed Mrs Obama arrived Friday afternoon, saying, 'it's a privilege to have the first lady here.' He told the Aspen Daily News he met with Secret Service officers and has placed seven of his deputies at the service of the First Family.

The holiday is not the first time the first girls have been on skis.

Their first attempt came in Feb 2010 when she took the girls to Liberty Mountain Resort, in Carroll Valley, Pa. just is 60 minutes from the White House.

And last year Mrs Obama took Sasha and Malia to Vail and Beaver Creek last Presidents' Day just days after the President tried to sell his cost-cutting budget to the American people by asking them to stay at home.

‘If you’re a family trying to cut back, you might skip going out to dinner, or you might put off a vacation,’ he said.

Once again while Mr Obama returned to the White House after a fundraising trip to West Coast, the rest of his family headed to Colorado – rather than visiting slopes closer to Washington in Virginia or Pennsylvania.

Their trip came despite previous criticisms over the family's extravagant vacations, including a trip last summer to Martha's Vineyeard where the family rented a farm estate for around $50,000 a week

Mrs Obama also raised eyebrows when for the second year in a row she left earlier than her husband for their annual Christmas holiday in Hawaii, incurring additional expenses of an estimated $100,000. The 17 day holiday is estimated to have cost taxpayers $4 million.

No public events are scheduled for the first lady’s visit to Aspen.

She just doesn't get it. How out of touch can one person be and why can't her husband control her?

And I hear she even still gets paid her salary when on vacation. In fact, she gets double-time because it's Presidents' Day. This mooching off the public trough has to be stopped!

Evidently she and Barry do not care one bit what anyone thinks about this. Sadly..most don't. I don't begrudge her going on holiday but she seems to have zero prudence when it comes to her choices.

They are concerned with setting a new standard for future white house occupants

Clearly it's not good politics. You'd think that mrs Obama would be concious of appearances. I KNoW that the President is. I am certain he tells her this, but she apparently ignores him. Phrase it however you want, Robert and company... Seriously... 16 vacations in 3 years? This isn't about whether or not she is on the payroll. It is about whether or not she is in touch with the people who voted her husband to a position where she and her family COULD take such vacations. I'm willing to bet she hasn't taken this much vacation time in the entirety of her marriage, much less in three years.... And at a time when her husband is preaching cost cutting and sacrifice.

It doesn't make her look out of touch. It makes her look cruel... Asking people to donate $3 to her husbands campaign while she takes a 100,000 vacation (retail value, forget af1)

At least she's vacationing within the country this time...

Did they reserve one slope for her, a whole mountain, or the whole freaking resort?

How come she never vacations where a person can find the poor black people?

I got a little chuckle out of that panel of photos -- it's pretty obvious that the third panel (little kid) was spliced in as a joke.

Good grief...I wish Michelle and Barrack would both stay on vacation indefinitely. If they're gone maybe they can't do any more damage.
