It's funny you say this. That's what we've been saying on the MAC board about C-USA whenever a C-USA fan shows up there claiming that they're going to raid the MAC.

Although.... I wonder if you guys did ever do it, you might could negotiate a better tv deal than playing Tuesday and Wednesday night games.
what a pleasant and positive contribution. :sarcasm:
The Sun Belt and MAC fans care as much for our teams and leagues as you do about yours. I'm sure C-USA fans don't appreciate it when SEC, Big East, etc fans come to make snide comments about your programs.
Problem is that merging doesn't do anything useful for either conference. A scheduling deal? Sure. Getting a 6th home game occasionally would be nice instead of constantly whoring ourselves out for a few extra bucks from BCS schools, and given how many are or are thinking of playing 9 conference games instead of 8, it would make scheduling easier on both sides.
Having a massive conference isn't going to do squat for any non-BCS school as far as TV rights. The harsh truth is that most teams have little or no value in a TV contract and adding another handful of schools like that just waters down what little money you'll manage anyway. If you're going to form a conference just for TV cash, you're better off grabbing the top half dozen remaining names and then fill 2 or 6 slots to make it as geographically sane as possible depending on whether you want a CCG.
I am a BIG fan of MAC and Sunbelt football. I am glad ESPN has gave those conferences a spot on Tuesday. I honestly would watch some of those games before I would watch some of the top conferences.
I do not see any reason to have a merger. Most of the bowl games you all play against each other anyways.
Plus the MAC has a pretty long history playing each other and aside from a few adds has probably been the most stable of conferences. No reason to screw that up.
Both the MAC and Sunbelt are about or as good as the WAC, C-USA, and the MWC now anyways.Just keep growing your own brand and you will be fine.
both the Sun Belt and the MAC have passed the WAC. the Belt has only been playing FBS football for just over a decade so I'd say our rapid growth has been pretty remarkable. We're the youngest league so we've taken our lumps and obviously people still disrespect us, but I expect the SBC to continue it's climb to the top of the non-AQ's.
With C-USA in such turmoil we could find ourselves picking off their programs pretty soon. I suspect some Conference USA fans will mock that statement, but it makes sense. the Belt is very stable and geographically sound. If the AQ status dissapears and everyone moves to somewhat equal standing then all currently non-AQ leagues will be in a position to benefit. the SBC could add La Tech and Southern Miss and really take big steps.

No. They will surpass it starting next year after Nevada, Fresno, and Hawaii move on. One bad season for the WAC does not mean you are all of the sudden better. LA Tech and Nevada would of beat the best team in the Sunbelt this year 2 out of 3 times.

Yeah, Common sense is overrated I guess.
there's a reason they play the games my friend. anyone can beat anyone, you can't simply state something as fact and use "common sense" as your reasoning. No matter how you may feel about a match-up, until it's played on the field the outcome is not certain.
you should know better anyways brother, you're a Boise State fan. Yall have been mocked and disregarded only to show up the competition plenty of times.

Agreed, and have believed that for 3 years now. Was just hoping for ECU fans' sake that ECU would be one of the programs ripe for the picking.

I thought about it. I think I am actually gonna agree with you. UL's performance against SDSU and UFI's win over Louisville was pretty impressive. I am gonna say I was wrong on this matter.
well thank you War Torn Ruston, that is very big of you. That deserves rep points.
Many times Sun Belt Conference programs are disrespected simply because they are SBC teams. We are the youngest FBS football Conference and we've had to climb the mountain with those above us yelling insults the whole time. Despite the haters we've chugged along and worked hard, sticking together and fighting for every ounce of respect we've been given through the media.
Over the 11 years of Sun Belt football we've come a LONG way. I'd argue we've accomplished more with less than any other non-AQ league out there during our lifespan. Little television exposure, ridiculously difficult OOC schedules, struggling to build fanbases, the works. We are not the SEC, but we are a proud bunch of programs who believe in ourselves and work for what we get. We are Blue Collar all the way and proud of it.

La Tech looked really good in their close loss to TCU, so I'll give you that one.
Nevada wasn't much in 2011. They were much better in 2009 and 2010 (the year they beat Boise) when they had Kaepernick at QB. I would not be optimistic about Nevada going forward because Kaepernick is a once-in-a-very-long-time kind of star for a program like that, and because their budget is very low, their budget will probably be in the bottom half of the MWC even w/o Boise and SDSU there.

Personally I'd love to bring in the Pirates, but I don't think the Pirates would love to be brought in. Also, yall don't fit our footprint.

With that kind of drivel you need to take that ECU player out of your avatar.
