LaTech positions itself for C-USA membership
http://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/2...membership

Quote:Louisiana Tech officials believe their school is perfectly positioned athletically, academically and geographically for membership in Conference USA and are hopeful an invitation to join the league will come in the next few weeks.

C-USA and Mountain West officials are meeting today to discuss a potential merger between the two non-AQ conferences and the result of that meeting could have a dramatic effect on Tech's athletic future.

I don't think 34,000 alumni in the region is a selling point for LA Tech. Just my opinion.

We better add Fing Butler or something to offset their crappy basketball.

I think we should go after some international flavor. Maybe a college in China? Tons of TV's there.

I hope we get Temple in the East to get to 18 full members, or drop Hawaii all together and stay at 16 full members.

No thanks. I think that if we can't land Temple then there really isn't a need to add schools just for the heck of it.

I do think La Tech would be a good fit for Sun Belt, would save a lot of travel and could create some rivalries.

No thanks to Temple, they have already failed once. Yes to Tech, a great fit to our conference.

LA Tech has burned a few bridges in the Sun Belt. They make sense in the SBC, but would have one of the lowest budgets. At this point, I don't know if there is enough support for them to get an invite.

Ask yourself this, would you rather drive 2:45 on I-59 and I-10 to see your team play in a city just like a larger version of Hattiesburg. Or drive 6 hours to watch your team play in a city like Vicksburg? If you like long boring drives and a little city then your right La Tech is the best fit. If you want a school situated directly in between Rice and Tulane on the I-10 corridor and about 3 hours from USM then Louisiana is the right school.

not in CUSA...

9-4 in football with a bowl W
26-8 in basketball with a NCAA 3rd round
Philly market
good athletic budget

but hey, you have a boner for La Tech.

I think Temple would be a great choice. But I think they are more Big East material than CUSA material.

I'd prefer Temple to Tech, but I don't think they'd come. I prefer Tech to most Sun Belt or WAC schools though.
