Whom Do We Want for 15 and 16?
I really think the ACC will go to 16 eventually. My Number One choice is Notre Dame. I realistically think Penn State is gong to stay with the Big 10...so who would be #16?

My feeling is UConn is the better University/Sports program but Rutgers is the better school loaction wise.

Should the ACC tell Notre Dame they are going to 16...for them to pick their partner. If they say No..then do we take Rutgers and UConn?

Is their another school out there? I could handle Notre Dame and Louisville too.

I dont know if Louisville will ever be in the Acc, because of academics, Why I dont know. I keep reading about good things that are going on down there in Louisville academic wise, but academics is the number 1 answer that I keep hearing about keeping Louisville out of the Acc. But I would be happy with either Uconn or Rutgers in the Acc. If the Acc wants to lock down the best bb league, then inviting either Louisville or Uconn will do that. The Acc will not be the best fb conference so you might as well lock down the other revenue sport, the way the BE did after the raid in 2003. I would be happy with ND and either Uconn or Rutgers or just Uconn and Rutgers.

RE: Whom Do We Want for 15 and 16?
Notre Dame is a must for the ACC to expand to 16. So choice #1 has to be ND. Choice number 2 is easy for me too - Rutgers. UCONN may have the better fans and it has an elite BB program; however, the ACC has to make this a FB move. Rutgers brings NJ into the ACC. Rutgers may not carry a lot of NJ, but a little bit of NJ is > than all of CT. Also, the NJ recruiting grounds come into play as "ACC country" and that is good for the northern teams in the ACC. I think UCONN BB would result in the ACC BB product being diminished through "cannibalism". Putting too many strong programs in one conference will reduce the overall quality over time because a few of those powers will lose and become more of a middle of the pack program.

RE: Whom Do We Want for 15 and 16?
1.)Notre Dame - Eastern Timezone. Great football. Solid basketball. Great lacrosse. Huge name brand. Will bring the ACC TV contract WAY up. Notre Dame will maintain a fair amount of rivalries in the ACC.

2.)Penn State - Eastern Timezone. Great football. Huge name brand. If the ACC were to get ND and PSU, their TV contract would go through the roof. Penn State will me reunited with many rivals in the ACC. Penn State vs Pitt could turn into a huge game for the ACC. Small chance of happening, sadly.

3.)West Virginia - Eastern Timezone. Great football. Good basketball. Huge name brand. Next best option to PSU. WVU has many rivals in the conference. Pitt, SU, UMD, VaTech, etc.

4.)Rutgers - Borders Atlantic. Solid football. Brings another lax team. Good name brand. Has a large on campus stadium, compared to UConn. Is in a recruiting hotbed. Provides another good rival for Syracuse. Has a great chance of becoming a super power, with the right coach.

5.)Connecticut - Borders Atlantic. Decent football. Great basketball. Great name brand.

I disagree. That hasnt been a real problem for the BE, and it currently has more strong programs than the Acc will ever have. Also, the Acc needs all the depth that it can get in bb right now.

We'll stay at 14 rather than add schools that will take more away than they add.

Agree. Actually, the race to 16 is a myth. Objectively, there are not enough schools to make 5 conferences of 16 schools work. You may get 4 conferences of 16 only if the Big12 goes away. Then you will have a group of schools left out. I don't think UT and OU really want to be members of the PAC anyways, so I think at best we'll see 2 conferences of 14, 2 conferences of 12 and one conference of either 10 or 12 for the "Five Families". The BE will do whatever - no one really cares what number they end up at anyways.

Because West Virginia, Rutgers, and Connecticut wouldn't leave the XII in a second for the ACC. 01-wingedeagle

Is their another school out there? I could handle Notre Dame and Louisville too.

Although they may not fit the profile of the traditional ACC university, I will make my case below as to the reasons the ACC should consider Temple in its future expansion plans:

Philadelphia PA is the 4th largest television market in the US.

Fills the east coast gap giving the ACC a presence in every major market on the east coast.

Basketball program deep with tradition, 6th in all time NCAA wins behind only Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, Duke, and Syracuse. A-10 Conference champions 3 of the last 4 years, 4 straight NCAA tournament appearances. Coach Fran Dunphy is one of the most respected coaches in the northeast.

Football is on the rise, 26 – 12 over the last 3 seasons including 2 bowl appearances, 1 bowl victory, and is now under head coach Steve Addazio and his SEC coaching staff from the University of Florida.

Opens up the Philadelphia, central New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania markets for recruiting

The university is behind the programs as evidence by the $9,000,000 approved expansion of the current football practice facilities scheduled to break ground this winter, and the $48,000,000 complete renovation of McGonigle Hall the practice home of men’s basketball which will be completed this month.

Top level game facilities, home football games at Lincoln Financial Field, home basketball games at The Liacouras Center a 10,200 seat on campus arena opened in 1997, as well as access to the Wells Fargo Center.

265,000 alumni

A natural rival for Pitt

Opens up another new east coast marketing opportunity for the ACC.
Would add to the conference profile for both basketball and football immediately.

Just a few points for consideration.

I think Temple would be a solid add. The main problem with Temple, though, is their academics are behind Florida State. FSU is the worst school, academically, in the ACC. Temple would need athletic success, comparable to FSU, to get into the ACC.

Side note: I think Temple should put owl wings on the sides of their helmets. Similar to the Philadelphia Eagles.

No thanks. We do not need to add a team that not only can't win the MAC, but can't beat a MAC team with a winning record.

You know, I have heard that and it’s a tough obstacle to overcome, especially since I don’t know what the hard academic requirements are. I’m biased, and I would have loved to see TU in the Big East expansion, but the politics of another Philadelphia team made it difficult. To me just from a fit standpoint the ACC makes sense for Temple from what they can bring to the table standpoint, and with all the turmoil in major college football realignment I just hate to see them left out in the cold (AKA the MAC or C-USA). I’m not worried about basketball and all sports in the A-10, the NCAA tournament insures they will get a shot at national exposure, it’s when I see 6 – 6 teams from major conferences getting higher profile bowls then smaller conferences champs I get worried. It’s the haves (6 major football conferences) or the have not’s (every other conference) and I hate to see an up and coming program on the have not’s side.

Hey, don’t be a hater. Temple is a program on the way up. Not everyone beats who they are supposed to beat, case in point earlier this year TU 38 U of Maryland 7. It’s not about what a program can add now, it’s what can it add over the long term.

I highly doubt the B12 even makes it back to 12 let alone 16. And I'm not sure why everyone just feels the need to go to 16 in the first place.

RE: Whom Do We Want for 15 and 16?
I think a better question is what are the criteria for 15 and 16? The ACC obviously wants to emphasize academics. There was some talk about an agreement to pursue football schools after the last round.

It seems obvious that the ACC is holding a spot for ND. I believe there is an agreement to take Uconn when ND makes up their mind. If ND says no I would look for Uconn and Rutgers. Temple seems like it is worth taking a look at but I've gotten steam rolled for mentioning that.

The reason for 16 is scheduling, TV$$ and territory.

There's a very good chance Notre Dame ends up in the ACC.

Penn State there is a very small chance. I only mentioned them because the thread asks "whom do you want".

West Virginia, if invited, would leap to the ACC. Every game is closer to home. They have many rivals in the ACC. They would leave the XII in an instant.

I say they tell ND to $hit or get off the pot. If they say yes take UConn. If they say no take UConn and Rutgers and be done with it.
