My feeling is UConn is the better University/Sports program but Rutgers is the better school loaction wise.
Should the ACC tell Notre Dame they are going to 16...for them to pick their partner. If they say No..then do we take Rutgers and UConn?
Is their another school out there? I could handle Notre Dame and Louisville too.
Although they may not fit the profile of the traditional ACC university, I will make my case below as to the reasons the ACC should consider Temple in its future expansion plans:
Philadelphia PA is the 4th largest television market in the US.
Fills the east coast gap giving the ACC a presence in every major market on the east coast.
Basketball program deep with tradition, 6th in all time NCAA wins behind only Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, Duke, and Syracuse. A-10 Conference champions 3 of the last 4 years, 4 straight NCAA tournament appearances. Coach Fran Dunphy is one of the most respected coaches in the northeast.
Football is on the rise, 26 – 12 over the last 3 seasons including 2 bowl appearances, 1 bowl victory, and is now under head coach Steve Addazio and his SEC coaching staff from the University of Florida.
Opens up the Philadelphia, central New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania markets for recruiting
The university is behind the programs as evidence by the $9,000,000 approved expansion of the current football practice facilities scheduled to break ground this winter, and the $48,000,000 complete renovation of McGonigle Hall the practice home of men’s basketball which will be completed this month.
Top level game facilities, home football games at Lincoln Financial Field, home basketball games at The Liacouras Center a 10,200 seat on campus arena opened in 1997, as well as access to the Wells Fargo Center.
265,000 alumni
A natural rival for Pitt
Opens up another new east coast marketing opportunity for the ACC.
Would add to the conference profile for both basketball and football immediately.
Just a few points for consideration.
