RE: Out of ULL, Ark St., LA Tech, FIU or FAU..who has best facilities?
What's with FIU's stadium? One side looks "unfinished". Other than that it's OK.
FAU has the microwave plan, very similar to UCF but smaller. Is this thing complete????
Between the 2 I guess....FIU. Not really a fan of adding either though.

It was completed on 10/15/11. That picture was 07/25/11.

Agree...CajunDome is a beautiful arena...(actually HUGE inside, hosted minor league hockey teams, tons of concerts and shows):
None of the other schools have an indoor facility as nice as ULL, plus, ULL easily has the best baseball facility out of that bunch, plus, has always had a nice, compact football stadium who's parking lots are full of crazy cajuns tailgating, regardless of their team's record.
When you consider ALL sports, ULL wins it going away.

How many people have actually seen all of these places in person, completely updated, on game day? I doubt anybody has, so any response is going to be extremely subjective at this point. I can make Legion Field look good if I find the right picture, but I know the place is a complete dump. Hopefully our conference officials do their homework, and if no school seems to fit, I say just stand pat for now.

Judging from the pictures, I'm very impressed with FAU's and FIU's football stadiums, especially FAU. ULL needs to catch their football stadium up with their basketball arena. The stadium looks bad. It's one of the worst I've seen. No offense. I'm a Rice fan, so I know a little something about bad football stadiums.

Cajun dome is too big. The seats in the lower bowl are outstanding. The rest of the seating, not so much (way too far from the court). The lower seating is generally sufficient, though.
Cajun Field is a nice stadium IF it would get a refurbishing. It's a really good layout.
That's all I've seen among the candidates.
On a side note, UNO's Lakefront Arena was very nice. It's underutilized as it's tucked away in a corner of the city.

RE: Out of ULL, Ark St., LA Tech, FIU or FAU..who has best facilities?
I have been to all venues concerning Tech, the Cajuns and A-State...
A-State has the best basketball arena hands down (classic basketball configuration and built with basketball in mind FIRST), The Cajun Dome is nice and has been updated but it is more of a multipurpose arena and a lot of bad seats (not sightlines just alot of seats too far from the court), Tech's has had alot of updates with more coming and has a more intimate feel and is the smallest of the 3 with just over 7,300 permanent seats (with a reconfigured seating it would be the best) and it can get LOUD with just 2,500 in attendance
Cajun's have the best baseball facilities and they love their baseball in Lafayette, but Tech's has had alot of upgrades the past few years but has a uniqueness about it that goes back to a throwback era with the trains and such and very intimate (you have to shoehorn people in if the crowd gets over 1,500) - A-State is a distant 3rd
Football - right now I would give the edge to TECH with groundbreaking on the endzone project slated for June, from the setting with all the pine trees/trains to the updated lighting to the surface to the tailgating areas to the video board its a nice place to watch a game the SEZ project will just take it up one notch further. Cajun Field would be my second choice, stadium setting is nice, very good tailgating and I like the way the overflow can go to the hills in the endzones (and yes I know they have an indoor practice facility) but the stadium is in dire needing of a sealing and upgrade. A-State is nice, but nothing really grabs you
I will not comment on the FU's since I have not been to either

Good deal. Will it just be general upgrades, seating expansion, etc? I can't find the link now but from what I remember it was relatively vague and just referenced contacting the University for more info. I know it specifically refered to the football stadium though.
I really hope La Tech gets in. I think there's a lot of long term potential there.

Here is the link -
http://www.latechsports.com/questforexce...-zone.html
This contains the preliminary drawings, we are waiting for the construction drawings right now...
Under the preliminary drawings - we will actually be decreasing the capacity by a couple of thousand (seating will be closer to 28K rather than slightly over 30K) - but I don't know if that will be the same under the final drawings

Those, as you note, are just preleminary artist drawings of what one might want the structure to look like. Actual architect plans will follow later and could resemble the preleminary look or be entirely different. I was wondering what are the plans to pay for it. Last I heard you (Tech) had about $5mil which enabled them to engage the architect and will be able to pay his fee and more. However, where is the rest coming from. Your fund raising drive has been engaged for about two years now, about $5mil of the needed $20mil collected, and heavy hitters have already been approached. Some say construction will start in Spring or Summer but there is hardly enough on hand now to dig the hole. I am hearing that they plan to let the students vote on assessing themselves a quarterly fee enabling them to issue bonds for the money but what if it is voted down?

RE: Out of ULL, Ark St., LA Tech, FIU or FAU..who has best facilities?
As of this time there is over $9MM collected around a total of $12MM pledged...
It has taken 18 months to raise that amount -
And all of the heavy hitters have not been tapped and the "grass roots" level of fundraising has not begun, that will happen once the construction plans are finalized for bid -
The endzone facility should be in the $16MM range based on preliminary estimates, the additional $4MM or so is supposedly slated for pressbox renovations and more renovations for the TAC
If they have to go to the students to bond the remaining $$$ (worst case scenario would be around $5MM) - it will pass, the students HAVE NEVER voted down an athletic fee -
And we all know that if James Davison wishes he can write the check tomorrow and it will get done -
Also Sam Wyly and his brother's estate have still not come to the decision of what their contribution will be yet
