SF Field Condition
I heard on 670 last night that they were debating putting in new turf at SF before the Bears game on Sunday. They ultimately decided to keep it in and see how it does for the first game. Here's my worry...if it doesn't hold up, they will put down new turf before the NIU/UW game and we all know how well new turf holds up at SF. Anyone else at all worried about the field condition at SF, or is it just me?

Either way, the field condition is the same for both teams. So, not worried about field conditions, other than the injury risk, which I am sure will be a top priority when they consider whether to keep or replace the current field.

I think I'm more worried it's going to be a crappy game of players falling all over the place. I hate watching games where this is a problem. You really can't showcase two good teams if players are on their asses the entire game. I guess we just cross our fingers it will hold up.

Agreed. While ideally you want nice clean grass ultimately, this is football and its always better in the grass and the mud!

I am most def worried about the field conditions at SF. Crappy field conditions can really up the chances for injuries. Prior to your post, I had heard they had a new sod company for Sf and they were going to re-sod it over Labor Day weekend. Obviously they didn't.

the field sucks with new sod, it sucks with old sod.. So gotta deal with it either way. I don't pay attention to fields too much, but when was the last time NIU played not on an artificial field? How many MAC schools have sod?

Most in the south have grass. Some in the north still do. In the Big Ten, Purdue, Iowa, Penn State, Michigan State and Northwestern all have grass. I think Temple is the only MAC school with grass, but it's not even their stadium.

I think last year's opener at Iowa State was the last time we played on grass. The last time Chandler Harnish played on grass was our win at Purdue in 2009.

No chance in hell they put down new sod for NIU. It will likely get replaced immediately after our game. Don't worry, we'll have the same crappy turf that is there today.

Not trying to sound like an ass or anything, but Iowa changed their field to turf after they were playing in puddles constantly when it was raining/ horrible draining problems.
