Time to Sell the USPS?
With the USPS in major financial trouble it seems the solution my be to privatize and sell this service as franchises to three or four service providers. At a minium the USPS pension plan needs to be converted to a 401k style defined contribution benefit NO another defined benefit program funded with gubment IOU's.

1) Convert the benefits to 401K style.
2) No mail delivery on Saturdays.

Job done.

How about just spinning them off? I mean, they were doing fine until the past 5 years. At that point they've begged Congress to raise rates and allow them to make big changes to the system but Congress says no. Get rid of the Congressional oversight and they would be in a MUCH better position than they are now.

If nothing else, at least allow them to cut back to 3 or 4 day delivery immediately.

Robert's life sucks. I mean, it REALLY sucks. Can't get a good job. Can't get a woman. Can't get pu**y. Can't afford ribs. Can't grill out.

Face it, most of us would try to better that situation. That fool would rather spend his time on a message board bitching about it being someone else's fault. He'll be doing the same sh*t when he's 60.....alone.

RE: Time to Sell the USPS?
The Collective Bargaining Agreement that the USPS signed has guaranteed hours and layoff restrictions. Last month the USPS said it needed to layoff 120,000 workers, which would require Congress to break the contracts to keep things going.

Even if the House votes for it, the Senate wont pass it.

Its another manufactured political issue for Obama to use to 'blame Republicans" and motivate his Union base.

We will have another 11th hour deal to "avert the closure of the Post Office"...

What's really sad is that we have been maneuvered into so many situations that are shaking out like this. It's not promising.

Why do they need to throw out the entire agreement when they can just modify one clause in the contract to allow for a larger number of layoffs? The USPS wants to change the terms for the currently retired employees, and people close to retirement as well. That is a HUGE part of the reason why the union is fighting so much. If Congress allows them to essentially strip the current retirees out of the current Federal pension plan then you will see people going postal on them. Those people are already in the system, the money is already there for them to retire. Pulling it out now and allow the USPS to govern the money themselves would be like Congress borrowing from SS. Not in the best interest of the people who worked their time and now are retired.

The poor man's drink of choice in DeKalb is never Natty Light, it is always Old Milwaukee. Commonly referred to as "The Beast."

Keep your elitist Natty Light to your East Coast county clubs, you pinky extending latte hipsters.
