If I were Iowa State, I'd be worried, too. I'm not sure of any AQ conference who would take a stab at Iowa State other than the Big East.

Big East is the only AQ that would take them, definitly. If they dont find a home here, they'll end up in the MWC.

I think baylor should be more worried then iowa st. IMO if the BE invited 3 it would be kansas, kansas st and iowa st.(assuming missouri goes to the SEC)

Just as a BE fan, Iowa State does less for me than the C-USA schools.

Iowa State Future

If I were Iowa State, I would already be calling the Big East and discussing joining their conference immediately if the other schools leave. I would be upfront and say they would prefer to remain in the Big 12 if the B12 remains intact. But I would also say that if the four rumored schools make the announcement to leave, that they immediately want to be considered for Big East membership the second the other schools confirm they are leaving.

Now whether or not the Big East agrees to take them I don't know, but really what other options are there out there for Iowa State?

They need to get ahead of everyone else that could come before them in the pecking order and to do so they need to be proactively seeking a landing spot in the Big East.

I think MWC is ISU's best option. Do not see the Big East interested in them at all.

Cheers,
Neil

What's everybody's order of preference as far as possible* Big 12 teams go?

Mine:
1. Kansas
2. Kansas State
3. Missouri
4. Iowa State
5. Baylor

I'm assuming the UT, TT, OU & OSU are going elsewhere. I ranked Mizzou 3rd because I trust them least. They'll never quit pimping themselves out to the B1G.

RE: Iowa State: Worried about the future
Hard to say what is going to happen. Rumors of legal threats and threats of decreases in state funding against A & M being thrown around to intimidate them to stay. But who wants to be in a conference where you have to sue members to stay? But if the 4 go from the Big 12 to the Pac 12 or OU/OSU go to make it 14, then my choices would be

1. Missouri
2. Kansas
3. Baylor
4. Central Florida
5. K-State
6. Iowa State

If Mizzou is not available then:

1. Kansas
2. Baylor
3. Central Florida
4. K-State
5. Iowa State

Neil, the following snippet from Brett McMurphy of cbssportsline.com says that the league was ready to invite 4 Big 12 schools including Iowa State last summer:

Last summer when it appeared the Big 12 would lose several teams to the Pac-10, the Big East was ready to take advantage. Sources told CBSSports.com that the Big East presidents had agreed to invite Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Iowa State as full members. A meeting was scheduled in Chicago to make the formal invitations with the four Big 12 schools prepared to make the jump.

Do you think the dynamics have changed now with the looming tv deal that the league could be a little choosier as to who they invite?

Mizzou
KU
ISU
Baylor
KSt

Obviously I understand why KU and KSt are mentioned in the same breath, but I think they add nothing. A rural small market team in a low population state we'd already have a presence. I'd rather have ISU as a twelfth- new, bigger market and state.

Taking any Non-AQ school over available BCS level programs would be viewed as small time by the media.

Unless you're comparing it to Iowa State IMO.

Kansas
UCF (would love to get another Florida school)
Baylor (would love to get another Texas school)
Mizzou (i feel like once they get in... they will start talking to other conferences to get in)
ECU (would rather have them than KSU or ISU, because its a new market)
KSU
Iowa State

1 Mizzou
2 KU

Huge drop off

3/4 KSU or Baylor
5 ISU

If we bring in 3, Baylor might be an option to give TCU a partner.

Give UCF or ECU the money that ISU or KSU gets... both UCF and ECU have a built in fanbase, and with BCS money they get.. i don't think they will just do some minor adjustments.. they will go all out.

As much as it pains me to say it, UCF might be as good or better of an option than ISU.

Kansas is a ridiculously huge addition, it's crazy that some of you don't see that. Bringing in KU would be like bringing in UNC, Duke, or UCLA. Yeah, their basketball reputation means that much.

Any BCS school is a better choice than a non-BCS school, perception-wise. There's not an even a debate.
