So little Brett thinks we should use the name that people recognized because the media doesn't know who is Louisiana? Of course he completely ignores the point of the article, and that was about the Sun Belt commissioner's willingness to accomodate every conference members wishes in the branding their athletics with the exception of the Cajuns.

We get it Brett, it's more important for us to bend to the media's wishes then to freely brand our athletic program as we see fit. How dare we ask the Sun Belt Conference to honor our request when it has done so for every other SBC program.

I'm so tired of this sh*t. The other point of this blog is if people would call the school LA, then eventually it would catch on Ohio U is known as Ohio, I'm sure some people get it confused with Ohio State, but not that often.

This crap needs its own folder. And every thread hi-jacked by it should be closed.

We can't do anything about here; so take it to your State Legislature and your own message board and leave us alone already. geez.

As long as UL is part of the SBC, it will be part of the discussion. If you choose not to discuss it or participate, then fine. If you don't like it, then take your own advice and stuff it!04-rock

Every other thread is moving along and then bang, someone takes offense to a UL abbreviation and the whole thing comes to a grinding halt. It's indiscriminate, we have no choice whether to participate or not, completely unrelated topics are constantly hi-jakced.

You guys need to get over it when you come over here. We've heard it all before, a thousand times.

Okay, fair enough. I will take your suggestion under advisement.

Do you really think we want to talk about it?

This thread wasn't started by us it was the NT bloggers response to Jay Walker.

Let's continue to ignore this and other unrelated examples of double standards coming out of the SBC office. It will do wonders for in- conference relations.

Ohio St? Who's that?
Did you mean The Ohio State University?

It's all bull anyways. Changing a name doesn't change the view of the school. You've been given a name....accept it, and move on.

The University of Ohio was founded some seventy years before Ohio State.

It's a funny post especially since they are the example 90% of the time when people are citing why FCS schools should not move up.

RE: The Name Calling Crisis In The Sun Belt
Another way to state it is that it's time for H. Wright Waters to cut his crap out. He is trying to hoist a brand name on us the school and its fans don't want, and this will never be tolerated. He is overstepping his authority. Louisiana Monroe requested ULM, Louisiana Lafayette requested UL. It doesn't matter what another school doesn't want or what the request is. This is an athletic brand name and it is our call alone.

We don't call Wright Waters "H," and we think it is long past time that he gets the "H" out of our business. This is personal, how an outsider represents us to the world. I'm certain that none of the other conference members would like this done to them.

If a fan of another conference school is tired of reading about this, well, stop reading threads and posts that discuss it.

But heres the rub, ( and Ill admit it torques me off a lot too) sometimes we have a perfectly good thread about schedules or whatever, and someone types in ULL.

The next thing you know we have a cajun's poster make a somewhat smart arse remark along the lines of "Who is ULL we are UL?" and then then the thread degenerates AGAIN into a name issue, then eventually a Louisiana Budget crisis post, followed by a Eager Eagle state legislature report, followed by a LaTech "seperation" refrence.

Now we have a 50 post thread about "Sun Belt Schedule woes" thread that is in reality 10 posts about that, and 40 about the issues listed above. It does tend to permeate a LOT of threads along here.

Here's a reply to the DRC blog article from Walker (apparently the ONLY NAME HE REALLY OBJECTS TO IS ULL)

Posted by Jay Walker @ 10:40 AM Fri, May 20, 2011

Brett,

Thanks for the pub. However, you were off base one point. I never said anything about calling the Cajuns "Louisiana" except to say it is the preferred athletic brand.

I do not, and have never had a problem with "Louisiana-Lafayette" or "UL-Lafayette."

The University has been saying do not use ULL for twelve years.

The Commissioner continues to shove it down our throats....hence my consternation
