The official 2011 offseason thread
many questions...
will hoerdamn (sp?) redshirt with the return of David Brown?
What will Richie's roll be? im assuming 3 point specialist his freshman year
Will Stainbrook go on a diet? because a more thin and endured stain would have really helped us against Akron
How is Whittington going to look? what about David Brown?
So many questions...so much time to answer them.

RE: The official 2011 offseason thread
Hold up, this season may not be over yet.... we could get an invite to the CBI or the CIT. Afterall we finished tied for second in regular season play and went further in the tourney than Miami.... we might get the nod.

If it's not the NCAA or NIT then it is a waste of $$.

I don't know about the rest, but that sounds pretty accurate.

Well, it gets a young team valuable post season experience against some of the better mid-major schools. Something that may be useful to a young team that is returning almost all it's players and thinking about making a run at the conference title next year....
Of the 32 teams that played in the CBI/CIT tournaments last year
3 are already in the dance this year
Morehead State
Indiana State
Northern Colorado
4 more will be playing later today for an automatic bid
Princeton
Harvard
Akron
Boston University
2 are expected to get and at-large bid by cbssports.com
VCU
George Mason
3 won regular season titles and will be playing in the NIT
Missouri State
Charleston
Fairfield

If the cost is the matter I propose we of the Bronco Stampede make a fund drive to cover it, or at least a good part of it. And wasn't it only $32,000 last year?

RE: The official 2011 offseason thread
There is alot of digs at the 'other' post basketball season tournaments.
My question is:
If all these D1 football teams can go to a bowl game and drop $250-500,000 why shouldn't basketball teams have pay-in post season play?
Seems like the number for WMU to go to Texas was $300,000.
With almost everyone back next year the more games they play together now, the better they should be next year.

RE: The official 2011 offseason thread
in 2003, mike williams was a junior, kann was a junior, reed was I think a freshman or sophmore, snider was a freshman, reggie berry was a junior, mike willis was a Junior, we only lost pat cleland (sp) Robbie Column, and Antwan Joseph. We got a bid into the NIT and lost to Siena. the next year we returned everyone and we went 26-5. These boys need the taste of postseason. they need to know how to win in the postseason.
If we do not go to CIT (CBI is out of the question since hawkins basically burned any bridges there a few years ago), I suggest we should send then to Europe, like the 2003-04 team did. It builds chemistry, comradery, and they will know even better how to win away from home. Either way, the season should not just get shut down, these guys need to play a little more.
the cost is a good question, but I think beuragard does it this time. I think Beauregard will pony up, besides I'm sure Dunn would love another game to yell at the refs (hillarious btw)

The schools have to guarantee revenue, 30k for the CIT, 70k for the CBI this year. And only if you want home court advantage. I was reading about creighton hosting a CIT game and they said only about a third of the usual amount of fans showed at their CIT game. So for us that would be about 1,000 fans, at say $15 a ticket, looks like we cover half of it in ticket sales alone and that's assuming we only get to play one game.

Oh, well I didn't want to play in the stinky ole CBI anyway
The CIT is cheaper and there is a better chance for the Broncos to win it all.

A postseason experience would be good for this team, in terms of post season learning experience.

RE: The official 2011 offseason thread
Ok the season isn't over yet but, my suggestions for the off season:
Stainbrook; shoot right handed, tie your left down if have to, and spend as much time as possible at the Stapert's farm in Gobles, car pool with Whittington and anyone else who wants to help out.
Brown: rehab your ankle, shoot threes, and work on defense/rebounding.
Hutcheson: develop a pull up jumper to avoid those charging calls.
Howard: increase lateral quickness for defense.
Douglas: work with Hutcheson and Whitfield to get the timing down on your alley ops, messing that up is very easy and very embarrassing.
Conteh: keep working with Coach Farmer on your offense.
What else?

How about some alley oops to Shayne Whittington?
