RE: Kalamazoo Gazette
I hope WMU's campus doesn't end up too much downtown. That's one of the reasons why I liked WMU so much, compared to u.m. was the fact that everything was right there, not integrated with the city and not on different "campuses".

Let me get this straight in my head. We ***** about student attendance, but were ok with the idea of building a new arena further away from campus???? My logic hat is starting to hurt my brain!!!!!! How, in gods name will this in any way enhance student attendance at Bronco games??????? If private money wants to build the damn place, let 'em, as long as we keep basketball on campus.... Go Broncos!!!

Isn't about whether it's the right thing to do, it's going to happen. How our athletic department deals with it is what will matter.

The talk and support runs the same line of owning a major league franchise. Nothing but ego.

WMU should avoid any such unholy alliance. In the long run it will not serve their benefit.

I like hockey but not that I would support anything other than Lawson.

Hoops would suffer and frankly the better solution is to retool UA and scheme to get students involved.

The rest is throwing good $ after bad.

If they just put Read fieldhouse back the way it was in 1976 I would be happy. I think it seated 10kk or so. That old barn rocked.

Yeah, but 8000 seats were behind the basket.

RE: Kalamazoo Gazette
Dip is probably right about the inevitability of a new downtown arena. I just hope that WMU stays far far away from that nonsense. The whole idea is being driven by the ego's of those involved and in my opinion the thing would never be profitable. The K-wings will never draw more than 3,000 a night (average) and you arent going to steal many big name concerts from Grand Rapids. A lot of you have been to games at EMU and watching basketball in that place is downright depressing. Granted they dont draw for chit, but 3500 in a 8,000 seat place wont look that much better. Also, you will be talking about 3 winter sports teams (plus any womens teams that move downtown) vying for weekend home dates. Keep the games on campus where they belong.
