I'm guessing that is an attempt at sarcastic humor? I see in 17 hours the response to it was outstanding..... 01-wingedeagle Nobody......
Or maybe you just don't like basketball and wouldn't take money to go watch any team?
Or, worse yet, it might be your true feeling - and in that case how about if someone pays you to not go and to not comment on the basketball team! That would maybe be money better spent. One official practice under their belt, lots of new faces, potentially a different look to their style of play (since no real traditional-sized center at all this year), maybe better team chemistry and team play - but already getting slammed by an NIU 'fan'. At least give them a chance to prove one way or the other first.
Let's give you the benefit of the doubt and go back to the thought that it was just an attempt at humor or you just don't like basketball. 04-cheers

I went to every home game I could last year and went to the Northwestern game. I had high hopes last year. I believe that there are too many new faces for them to be successful this year. Will they be better than last year? Probably, but not by much. I'm going to the Northwestern game this year and hope that they will keep it close. How do you feel about this year's team? What has Tyler said about this team?

Tyler never says too much, but he has made note that off-court chemistry appears to be very good. Much better than it has been. He said it has been hard to tell how they will gel as a team talent-wise from just fall workouts and pick-up type games, but he's excited to see. And the chemistry should lead to better team play once they get used to playing together at that level with so many new faces. That may take several games, but it will be interesting to see. It's a fresh feel inside the program and I think they are excited about it. Tyler personally is battling a bad wheel. He suffered a bad high ankle sprain about 6 weeks ago. X-rays were negative but it was taking a long time to heal. He felt like he was starting to play well again going into yesterday's first practice. However, he said he hurt it again, this time in a different spot. Hopefully it was feeling better today so he could practice at the level he needs to. He is stronger and reported by assistant coaches was playing well this fall. Hopefully if he can get healthy he can finally get the physical and mental stuff together and have a good year - and help the team have a year better than most outside the locker room are expecting.
Regarding my view: I've yet to see any of the new guys play so I really don't know. Ty said Jones could be REALLY good and other new guys are showing good things. I hope to get up to watch a practice soon.

I think everyone had higher hopes for last year. Obviously didn't work out that way for whatever reasons. Some changes were made to address what might have been at least part of the issue. But, then some other well documented things also happend to make this year's roster very different from what people envisioned a year or two ago for the 2011-12 season. That's all in the past. You have a group of guys working hard who want to be at NIU and it's a brand new season. At this point, that's my only view.

I don't think it takes basketball as long to develop chemistry than football. It's only five players. I think basketball talent and athleticism are the most important ingredients. It seems we're lacking in those areas compared to other MAC teams.

last year was terrible, I'll certainly say that

but...this is a completely different team. Do I think it will be a good year? No...but I certainly willing to give them a chance and you never know, maybe it comes together for them.

That's a debate that could happen at another time and maybe never be agreed upon. But, in my opinion, I think that with all that has to happen so quickly and with so many different reads and reactions that have to occur in basketball, team chemistry is more difficult and important aspect than what most people realize. After being involved in coaching high school athletes, especially basketball, for 20+ years, it is crucial and often not something that develops quickly (not just referring to getting along, liking and respecting each other - but the chemistry of knowing each other and their game and how to play it well together). The number of players isn't as big of a factor as the nature of the sport is. In every team sport talent and athleticism are important ingredients for success, and while they can mask or make up for less chemistry, they are totally separate from the chemistry development topic.

Coach, I wish nothing but the best for Ty and hope he heals rapidly. I am looking forward with enthusiasm to seeing this year's team. I learned my lesson from last year. I had very high hopes going into the season, and they were shot to hell. This year, my expectations are much more tempered.

Fire Coach Patton! That's my last discussion on NIU basketball for this season. (I'm kinda hoping I'm serious.)

I'm taking the wait and see attitude and plan to attend at the very least the NU-NIU game.

First three MAC home games will be my benchmark dates.

If the teams fails to play better and win a few more games, it's time for Ricardo to go and start fresh - again.

The minuses and pluses to playing Patton's uptempo style are high runovers vrs transition buckets.

TOs have killed the team the past two seasons. Huskies need to heal their achilles heal to have many chances to beat comparable competition.

That's a tough test to judge them by!
- N'western will be very good. They have most of their team back from last year's pretty solid season. And if I'm not mistaken they are adding the Ryan kid who started but got hurt the first game vs. us last season and red shirted. All now more experienced and a year older so they will be even better this year.
- We have a lot more new faces than expected for this season and gelling vs. Northwestern is a tough order to fill.
- For several of our guys it will be their first taste of D-I competition.

All that said, I'm anxious to see how we do against a quality Big-10 opponent at home to open the season.

I think at this point it is a wait and see. Im sure the kids going to give it their all even if the fans dont. Hopefully the changes in players will help. Kowal really shot this team in the foot. If he was still here our post game would be very nice. They will have to play small and quick. Gang rebound and get the ball out. If it is the usual non support from the fanbase, I just hope they stay focused in the empty convo.

Kevin Coble is back and is one of the best Big10 players in the league. NU will be damn good this year. Ryan is more of one of the first guys off the bench for them.

I thought Coble is graduating in December and decided not to play for NU this year.

Kowal shot this team in the foot by being on the court. His departure is GOOD NEWS.

Yeah, he only averaged 10.5 points per game and led the team in rebounding. Oh, and he's 6-11. You're right, NIU has no use for a player like that.
