I saw darn decent coverage of NIU football in the SunTimes, but, unless I missed something, no mention AT ALL in the Tribune about NIU's game this weekend, in either the Thursday or Friday editions. Plenty of U of I crap and Notre Dame... Including an entire half page about some random U of I player who likes to dress "snappy" when he's not on the playing field...?!?

Another round of emails might be appropriate to the editor, who actually seems to ramp up coverage for a week or two after someone complains...

I'd imagine that a mention of the game in the Thurs Trib and a decent right up in the Friday edition, would equate to at least a few hundred extra people in the stands...

maybe there will be some coverage in sat edition.

i dont think chicagoland is ready to accept that NIU is the up and coming football team in Illinois. I hope we get another shot at U of I... maybe then we will get in the trib...

The Trib has provided some nice coverage up until a couple weeks ago. Then, it died down. Up until the season started, the Sun-Times provided not one iota of coverage. Nothing - no articles or even a mention. It was as if we did not exist or were below Division III. Then, when several of us complained, coverage improved. I canceled my S-T subscription and told them why. Maybe the same with the Tribune will have an effect.

S-T has been noticebly better, with Lacy Banks doing a great job. I just wish they'd give him a "Lacy Banks on the Huskies" page like the other beat writers get.

Trib has been horrible. A few weeks back, Shannon Ryan had a blog post about the U of I running back up for the Doak Walker Award. I responded to the blog that Chad Spann is also nominated and asked why didn't she mention it. It was never posted.

I'm sure there will be. Every Sat. the Tribune has a brief preview of the Illini, NU, ND and NIU games, usually in that order. Maybe a story, too.

NIU is in a cruel situation of conflict.
If NIU wins the MAC and gets the GMAC bowl(toilet Bowl according to the BIG 10, but the elite MAC bowl), then old timers will be very excited, that a key benchmark which Joe Novak failed to reach has been achieved.
If NIU beats 3 BCS teams then the Chicago alumni and student based get fired up, but our chances of injury especially to our QB gets greater, and we are no longer MAC top DOG!

Truthfully, this year unlike 2003, Neither Iowa State, Minnie or the Illini are power houses this year. In fact they are struggling. None are ranked, or have been ranked so far.
IF NIU were 6-0, sadly we would still be headed to the GMAC.(with a possible ranking)
Remember when BGSU ranked 10 with BIG BEN of Pittsburg Stealers were forced to play a 6-6 NU team. Their only loss came to National champions, Ohio State, whom they perhaps came closest to beating.

I use to prefer BCS wins over a MAC title, but with victories over Purdue and Minnie, I would prefer a MAC title.

Wah? Roethlisberger played at Miami of Ohio, not Bowling Green. Bowling Green did play OSU the year after they won the national title (2003), but that OSU team had 2 losses, so while they did play them close, they weren't the closest to beating them.

And Bowling Green went 11-3 in 2003, so OSU wasn't their only loss.

You are correct! I meant Miami of Ohio. They if I remember correctly only had 1 loss.

Yep, Miami-OH had 1 loss...21-3 to a really good Iowa team to open the year then they ran the table and crushed Louisville in their bowl game.

Everyone remembers us losing to BG and Toledo and BG going to the Motor City Bowl in 2003 while we stayed home. Everyone seems to forget that Miami was the MAC champion that year and finished something like 12th in the final polls at the end of the season.

Miami-Ohio finished 10nth! Both NIU and Toledo never went bowling despite stellar seasons!

I couldn't agree more, but the fact of the matter is that the Trib sucks from the teat of the Big Ten and have a big crush on the Irish. Aside from a few writers there, they couldn't care less about us.

What an amazing season for us and the MAC. My how times have changed. The MAC has become amazingly bad since then. Sad, truly sad. We have a chance to have a magical season in 2010, but the reality is this team in 2003 would be a mid-level MAC team.
