First crack at a top 50 opponent this year, Owls come in at 38 in this weeks' coaches poll. Congrats to NU for cracking the top 25.

Time to put the "Kill has never beaten an above .500 opponent" thing to bed.

By your crazy definition, technically they're #36. But for God's sake, they have ONE vote in the coaches poll and NONE in the AP poll. Top 50 opponent is debatable.

WillhiteHerald If Northwestern gets No. 25 in the coaches' poll after that performance at Minnesota, where do Northern Illinois and South Dakota belong?

Temple is 4-1 and competed with penn state, I think it's fairly safe to say they're a debatable top 50.

Thats actually a good question and I was thinking the same thing. If we beat Temple, we could get a few votes, maybe?? I think if we sweep the three homestand we will definitely get a couple of votes.

I don't see Illinois or Iowa State anywhere close to the Top 25, so I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with that statement.

That's probably doubtful considering NIU already has 2 losses. Northwestern is ranked because they're 5-0, not because of their performance against Minnesota.

Someone please kill this thread.

1 vote in the coaches poll does not make Temple the 38th best team.

Haha that might work on some half-interested casual fan but people on this board don't need that kind of garbage to understand the importance of this game.

I read that Temple paid Ohio State to use their team for practice because there was no other way to really challenge themselves.

EXACTLY. Congratulations to NU?????? Screw NU. They barely eek out a victory at Minnesota, where we controlled the game. Gimme a break. I hope we get a shot at them and take them down a few pegs, or at least that Illinois does. I know they are pretty good, I'm not saying they're not, but come on - they've done nothing to really pat them on the back about and yet some people act like they are ready to beat Ohio State or something!

According to Sagarin's ratings, NU has played the 107th toughest schedule. Michigan State has played the 135th toughest schedule. I think it just shows most of the people participating in those national polls don't really care who you played or how you won, they just look at the record.

That's kind of the way I took that. I think he was giving the Huskies some props.
