I wasn't even at the game, I watched it on TV, but it was the most crushing loss I've ever witnessed. Even worse than the last-second losses to Toledo.
Possibly the worst loss for me in any sport. It felt like I got hit in the stomach for weeks after.

My three biggest heartbreaks go in this order

1) 2002 loss Toledo - that was the biggest gut wrenching game I've ever witnessed
2) 2002 loss Wisconsin - because NIU actually won this game, but was overturned by officiating
3) Loss to Akron MAC championship

How is the Bowling Green game not on this list?

Despite the ridiculous build up to that game...we got beat soundly. It was more disappointing then heartbreaking. I did end up going to Toledo the week after, that game is on my list for sure. We take the lead, they score 28 unanswered...we come storming back in the 2nd half and then the infamous 3rd and 33 play...that is equally as bad in my memory book as the Akron TD in Detroit.

Gross....just bringing back old and terrible memories.

I lay face down on the ground in front of my TV for about an hour after the MACC loss to Akron.

I was also at Toledo to see the 3rd and 33....just WIDE OPEN.

There will never be a loss worse for me than the Bowling Green one. If for no other reason, I just don't think I could get as invested in to any team as I did the Huskies that year.

I'll always wonder what happens if that big play doesn't get called back early, or we don't try that trick play, or the defense is healthy.

Would not have mattered. We came into that game with a flawed defensive game plan. We decided to blitz Josh Harris frequently and he picked us apart. Didn't help having linebackers covering their WR's, something Duffy couldn't have done either had he been healthy.

Had to blitz, have to take risks when you are short handed.

Well we learned a lesson from that game and beat them at home the following season by playing a disciplined zone defense instead with Omar Jacobs at QB for BG. No reason to think that couldn't have worked the year we lost to them while undefeated.

While I railed as much as anyone against our defensive schemes through much of the Novak era (his unwillingness to go to a nickle package against a spread offense will always bother me), I really think the injuries had more to do with the defense getting torn up than the coaching.

LOL, today's Zips board is beyond delusional. They've got inside information on Saturday's outcome and it's not good. Somebody better tell Coach Kill right away. BTW, turns out NIU fans have less class than mighty Akron...just in case you weren't aware. This is based on 1 experience with 2 fans years ago, so accuracy should'nt be a concern.

The inside information was not a serious post, hence my sarcasm, but the string is entertaining.
