MAC Early Season Report--Not Good
The national press has already noticed how bad the MAC is this year:

RE: MAC Early Season Report--Not Good
I'm not going to lie, it's amazingly refreshing to watch football games from the major conferences. Watching MAC play can be as bad as high school football.

RE: MAC Early Season Report--Not Good
I enjoy watching HS football.
While I doubt you mean to demean it, it just sorta sounds that way.

Results and reports may get worse. A few MAC teams have yet to catch their lunches from the big boys.

Shelter the women and children when these massacres are reported:

EMU @ tOSU. WHAT were Eagles thinking? Is payout worth the beat down?

Kent @ PennST

WMU @ ND

MiamiO @ Mizzo

Boise-UT

Quote:The best non-conference win of the weekend for the MAC? Try N.I.U.’s 23-17 win over North Dakota, a team that lost to Idaho by 45 points the week before.

Hey, hey! We're number one!

Not that long ago when Miami had Rothlesberger, Marshall was strong and NIU and BGSU were competitive I thoght that the MAC was on the upswing and a bit stronger than CUSA. Now we seem to be the absolute lowest rung in FBS.

It's a down year no doubt, that doesn't mean the MAC can't work their way back over the next few years.

Most winnable game out of that group is WMU @ ND. Ohio Stadium's going to need extra janitors to clean up the bloodbath after the Bucknut's are finnished with EMU.

Don't mean to demean high school football at all, but at times the MAC talent looks similar or worse than a good HS game. Maybe it has to do with where I went to HS.

back to what? Has the MAC ever really been anything? Every now and then you'll see a team come close to running the table but as a whole this conference consistently battles the Sun Belt as the worst conference in NCAA. It's a sad fact.

And you call ME stupid?

The last sentence is right, only a crappy high school would crank out students who think the above thought.

to actually defeating BCS opponents on a regular basis and having some exciting young QB's that can put up some points.

Does the MAC typically go completely winless against FBS opponents?

Yeah, you're a dumb***. I know the talent level in the MAC is superior to that of HS football, but when the MAC plays anyone outside the conference they look incredibly outclassed. Even the FCS and conference games thus far have been ugly. I watched one of the best HS football conferences in the state and saw a few state title teams...teams that had players who were well above MAC level talent. All I'm saying is the MAC is really, really bad this year.

so, why has MAC apparently backslided?

Were those more glorious years simply an abberation?

Will the worm /cycle likely turn again ? WHY so?

The more schools in the MAC spend on facilities, the farther behind it falls.

What's with that?

No question not that long ago the MAC dominated CUSA. Now we are arguably worse than some FCS conferences.

ND is not that good, the WMU game may be a trap as they've got some tough ones on their schedule

The MAC was at the forefront of the spread offense revolution in college football a decade plus ago. Remember, there was a time when the bigger schools honestly had no idea how they were getting beaten. For a while, it seemed like we were catching up. Two things happened, those spread coaches got hired by big programs and D coordinators figured out how to stop it. We're back to a point where in order to beat teams, you have to be more talented, whether it's running a pro offense like a lot of MAC schools are going back to or sticking with the spread. Either way, there's no schematic bag of magic beans anymore. You just have to line up and beat schools with enormous advantages over ours. It can be done. We were legitimately better than Purdue that day and we might be better than Minnesota next week. It just won't happen very often.

Sad to say, but probably true.

MAC leadership was also crap, even during the good days, so whatever ground could be made up was pissed away by mediocre brains without any vision whatsoever.

RE: MAC Early Season Report--Not Good
Not a good start for the MAC but the MWC who supposedly was ready for a BCS AQ is having a horrible start except for Utah(who is leaving for the P10), AF and TCU:

Utah (13) 2-0 3-0
Air Force 1-0 2-1 Beat BYU by 21, lost to #7 OK by just 3!
TCU (4) 0-0 3-0 Beat OR ST & Baylor 75-31
San Diego State 0-0 2-1
Wyoming 0-0 1-2 Lost to TX & BSU (85-13) beat FCS USU by 8
Colorado State 0-0 0-3 Lost to Miami, NV & CO 106-19 ouch
Brigham Young 0-1 1-2 lost to FSU by 24 and AF by 21, beat WAU
New Mexico 0-1 0-3 Lost to OR, UT & TXTech 180-31 ouch
UNLV 0-1 0-3 Lost to Idaho 30-7

Can see why BYU wants to go Indy for football, besides not getting as much TV $ compared to negotiating their own contract; the high number of bad in conference teams will nosedive their strength of schedule.

In contrast the league with alot less $ to spend (WAC)
Fresno State 1-0 2-0 Beat 2 time defending BE Cincy by 14
Nevada 0-0 3-0 Beat CAL, CSU & EWU(FCS) 152-62
Boise State (3) 0-0 2-0 Beat WYO 51-6
Idaho 0-0 2-1 Beat UNLV by 23
Hawaii 0-0 1-2 Lost to #14 USC by 13
Louisiana Tech 0-0 1-2
San Jose State 0-0 1-2 Beat FCS USU by 5, lost to #10 WI by 13
New Mexico State 0-0 0-2
Utah State 0-1 1-2 Lost to #7 OK by 7
